It's deranged thinking..

The latest polls show 18% of Americans believe Barack Obama is a Muslim. A small percentage but still very disturbing. The percentage of people who think he is a Christian has fallen from 51% to 34%. Those who call themselves conservative Republicans are more likely to say he is a Muslim then say more moderate repubs and democrats, NO kidding!

President Obama does not NEED to flaunt his religion so fanatics can feel at ease. If you are a true Christian that is your personal journey, you don't have to wear your religion on your shirt sleeve. There is no reason to constantly talk about your faith and throw it in peoples faces the way GW Bush did. So, according to religious rightwingers, Bush was a Christian because he told them so and President Obama is a Muslim because he did not tell them so..

Joel Hunter, an evangelical pastor who is part of a small circle of spiritual advisers who frequently talk to Obama by phone, said this in an interview, "There is a downside to not wanting to expose what is personal to the political arena, it leaves all kinds of room for speculation and conspiracy and people who are just not informed."
"You know what happens with a vacuum?" he said."It gets filled."

Joshua DuBois, the president's chief faith adviser in the White House, said the president does not intend to suddenly practice his faith in public in an effort to counter misperceptions.

"The president's spiritual life, his Christian walk, is something that is important to him not for communications reasons or political reasons," DuBois said. "We're not going to shift course in any way on the basis of a short-term event."

That's smart Mr. President, to all of a sudden appear in church would just add fuel to the fire.

President Obama is the Christian son of a Kenyan Muslim father and a Kansas mother. From age 6 to 10 Obama lived in Muslim Indonesia with his mother and Indonesian stepfather. His full name is Barack Hussein Obama. That makes you fearful? This is one of the most ridiculous, outrageously stupid, arguments coming from fearmongering fanatics I have ever heard! Well, besides the "sky is falling chicken little story"....

GET A LIFE PEOPLE!!

The only people stupider than the fearmongers are the people who believe them.

oh so true Jerry!

Why is it disturbing that people think he's a Muslim? I thought it was the Christianity that was the bad religion.
All week you have been falling all over yourselves embracing the Muslim people.
You should be celebrating.

I read this crazy idea that we're "falling all over" ourselves "embracing the Muslim people" on another conservative blog today, as though there were something wrong with supporting Islam and Muslims.

The one president who did more, said more in support of Muslims was George W. Bush.

Hey lisa, Bush "embraced the Muslim people" many, many times. Perhaps you're unaware of this fact.

I have a post up on it with dozens of statements this conservative president made in defense of Islam and Muslims.

He just loved them to bits.

George Carlin.... "Think about how stupid the average person is, and half the people are even stupider than that!".

Well George might be lookin' down from the heaven he didn't believe in....and he's probably relieved to know the percentage of TRULY stupid is only 18%.

No big deal.....but maybe Mike Judge can re-release IDIOCRACY, and label it as a documentary this time.

dingbat lisa, why it's disturbing is because Christians hate Muslims, therefore if they think Obama is a Muslim they have an excuse to hate him for something other than his skin color. The "Christians" believe Muslim man Obama will bring down America, he will destroy it in the name of Islam. We are fuckin' DOOMED!!!

We are not celebrating Muslim Obama because he is a Christian. We don't call him a liar like you and your people do.

Yes we are standing behind the peace loving Muslim Americans, they are AMERICANS. We don't hate Christianity, we condemn the hateful bigots who hide behind Christianity though.

Leslie Parsley said...

Yep. It's not the true Christians who hate Muslims. It's those fake Christians who hate Muslims and everybody else.

Shaw's article on Bush's love affair with the Muslims is top notch. "He just loved them to bits" and he even kissed them on the lips! Lisa, you should broaden your mind instead of your butt by going over to Shaw's.

I was going to say: “Christians hate Muslims” is too inclusive; you should say idiotic, narrow-minded, bigoted, uneducated, right-wing, fundamentalists people who call themselves Christians hate Muslims.

But, tnlib said it so much nicer.

An even larger percentage believe in UFOs.

This is a non-story meant to detract from the utter catastrophe Obamanomics has created.

The liberal sheeple, in true herd mentality, all echo what MSNBC tells them to...

Actually, I'm pretty sure that Barack Obama Sr., the President's Kenyan father, was an atheist, although based on the name he presumably had Muslim ancestors. So he would not have had any Islamic ideas to pass down to his son. Not that the kind of people who think the President is a Muslim would believe it, or care even if they did.

The "Anonymous" above is me, Infidel753. There seems to be some sort of glitch with the comment form.

Ahh, a little projection never hurt anyone.

Considering the extreme effort that Faux Noise has put into propagating this lie, this could attually mean that almost 25% of their regular viewers are questioning their Republican propaganda.

I still think this is all about President Obama being black.
Their straw man arguments are ment to disguise their racism.
Didn't we all wonder how the racists would attack the first black President?
These idiotic arguments fit the stupidity of racists.

Sue said...

hey all, hope you're having a good weekend.

If the righties can't bring down Pres. Obama because he's black, or when they cry he's a Muslim(God forbid!), then what next?? Obamanomics?? LOLOL!! Get used to him righties, he's here for 6 more years, unless you think one of your deranged candidates has the smarts to beat him!

Let me just add this, I am NO SHEEPLE. There is much about Obama I do not like and have even said so. I have even said I was a Hillary supporter. But I will stand with my president knowing this country is so much better off with a democrat. I will never dispute that!

You are so right, Sue. The thought that John and Sarah could be doing better is ludicrous. It makes me laugh just thinking about it.

Sue said...

Jerry it is laughable but also scary to think where we would be right now with a republican president, especially John and Sarah. Yea, I guess it is laughable when you picture her as a VP ((((SHUDDER)))))

The King of Broad Brush Stereotyping has spoken....so by God, it must be true.

Sorry...I have to run...got a call from Keith. He's instructing me on bigger and better ways to screw up America....it'll all be included in the Handbook (reserve yours today!)

The President seems like a pretty smart fellow. I'd like to think that he's probably an agnostic - the rest of it being just for show.

Sue said...

Will I find that unbelievable! Why in all the past presidents as far back as I can remember, the religion was not questioned?? Well maybe it was with Dubya, after all he surely did not act "Christian"...

You all can not look at this man named Obama and believe a word he says! The man says he's a Christian, so be it and big friggin deal.

Sue said...

get me one of those handbooks Hugh!

Sue,

I urge you and your commenters to read David Ignatius of the Washington Post. Here's a snip:

"I think the president is right on the mosque issue (as on health care and his economic rescue efforts). But the larger point is that we truly have a leader who keeps doing the wise thing on policy (assuming you agree with him) but the dumb thing on politics.

Politicians often like to brag about how they aren't really political animals but public servants. It's almost a political cliche, to accompany a craven decision with the statement: "I'm not doing this to win votes, but because it's the right thing to do."

But Obama is different. He truly doesn't seem to relish politics, in the raw, mix-it-up sense. Most of all, he isn't needy for public attention in the way our most neurotic and gifted politicians have been -- walking outpatients such as Richard Nixon or Lyndon Johnson or Bill Clinton. He doesn't like red-hot; he likes cool and deliberative.

Oh, and read to the end of the column, Sue. You'll LOVE what he says!

Sue said...

Thanks Shaw, great article. Here's the last paragraph....

Maybe Obama, the anti-politician, really doesn't care if he gets reelected, so long as he's doing what he thinks is right. Somehow, I can't imagine this breakthrough president stepping aside to write law-review articles. But to stand a chance in 2012, he's going to need someone to light a fire under him, someone who can play politics fiercely -- and also can bring in some new voters.
Surely it's obvious that I am describing Obama's second-term masterstroke: Vice President Hillary Rodham Clinton.

I love Joe Biden, but this move people are whispering about seems so SMART! Then Hillary moves right into the presidency in 2016 with no problem because Palin will be the republican nominee! lol!

I've never understood why people are so goddamned concerned about a man's/woman's religion while or after electing them for public office. They shouldn't be spewing religious rhetoric while in that office anyway. Hell, I wouldn’t give a damned if he was a satanic prophet, as long as he kept his religious beliefs to himself while in office..

Sue said...

Well I guess it's because the religious rightwing believe the country's leaders should be Christians and our president especially or we're all doomed to hell! We must live by the word of God or else...it just gets worse when you have a half black president with a name like Barack Hussein Obama. Would they be acting like lunatics if our presidents name was John Smith, the Christian Democrat??

Jerry Critter said...

Maybe if John Smith was a Catholic.

Sue said...

yea that's true Jerry!
