Read it and weep, for it is TRUE...

Something is wrong in the world, but let's concentrate on our own country.....who is gonna change the way we look at the poor?  John Berger is correct, this is different, way different than say the 1950's, 60's, 70's etc... The poor are treated like trash, they are taking up space and costing too much money.  It's always about the money,  you can never have ENOUGH money, Right???

Today's poor are yesterday's slaves. (And this has nothing to do with skin color.)

Silver,

That is a great sound bite. Since you know this, who are they? Fred? Mary? Constance?

Your comment was utterly idiotic (no offense).

Sue,

Great quote. Consider it purloined.

Poverty rates:

1993 – 15.2% Thanks to 12 years of Reagan/Bush

2000 - Clinton left with 11.3%. Oh, oh. Here comes the Shrub.

2010- 15.1% Thanks to Bush Jr. and Republican obstruction of Obama, we’re almost back to where Reagan/Bush 1 left it.

Hmm. Wishful thinking, or Right Wing indoctrination?

So what this country needs is Mitt (I like to fire people) Romney to aid and comfort the aristocracy, who are doing better than ever. The untold thousands of people who lost jobs and pensions from his vulture capitalism join the ranks of the poor. The people our aristocratic bully says he's "not concerned about".

Just like the previous clueless aristocrat who helped crash the economy to create more poor people.

Yup, give us more a that aristocratic plutocracy.

They'll fix us real good.

Not sure where you've been living the last 30 years, so I'll explain it to you. Real slowly.

The only time there weren't a lot more poor people being "produced" was the late 1990s, after Clinton-era policies began to kick in and reverse the damage done in the Saint Ronnie/Pere Chimpy era. And then, of course, Chimpy got himself appointed to the Presidency, which did what it always does when a Rushpubliscum gets into the Oval Office-namely, the poor started taking a beating again. Especially since Chimpy had Rushpubliscum majorities in place for 6 years to do his bidding. The decline was stunning.

Given the Clinton timeline, we are still a couple of years away from seeing anything start really ramping up. But I'm sure you'll go back o wherever you were living for the last 30 years when things actually DO ramp up, so you won't have to admit to any of it.
