Beck, Coulter, and Limbaugh

Beck, Coulter and Limbaugh: Avatars of Julius Streicher

"Avatars of Julius Streicher" doesn't sound quite sober - hardly anyone recognizes his name today, but Streicher's spirit is alive and well in Beck, Coulter and Limbaugh. Streicher was one of the 11 Nazis sentenced to hang by the Nuremberg Trials on October 16, 1946.
During the trial the prosecution said that while Streicher was not directly involved in the physical commission of these deadly crimes against humanity, "his crime is no less worse for that reason.... It was to the task of educating and poisoning the people with hate, and of producing murderers, that Streicher set himself. For 25 years, he continued unrelentingly the perversion of the people and youth of Germany. He went on and on as he saw the results of his work bearing fruit. In the early days, he was preaching persecution. As persecution took place, he preached extermination and annihilation and, as millions of Jews were exterminated and annihilated in the Ghettos of the East, he cried out for more and more.

Go here to read this Op-Ed by Davidson Loehr, truthout

First up, some soundbites from Ann Coulter:

"We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity." [Her suggestion for dealing with the Middle East.]

"Liberals are always against America. They are either traitors or idiots, and on the matter of America's self-preservation, the difference is irrelevant."

"I don't really like to think of [the murder of Dr. Tiller] as a murder. It was terminating Tiller in the 203rd trimester.... I am personally opposed to shooting abortionists, but I don't want to impose my moral values on others." [On the murder of Kansas abortion doctor George Tiller, FOX News interview, June 22, 2009.]
"We just want Jews to be perfected, as they say." [Arguing that it would be better if we were all Christian.]

"If I'm going to say anything about John Edwards in the future, I'll just wish he had been killed in a terrorist assassination plot."

"There are a lot of bad republicans; there are no good democrats."

"My only regret with Timothy McVeigh is he did not go to the New York Times Building."

Fun huh?
Next some soundbites from Glenn Beck:

"I'm thinking about killing Michael Moore, and I'm wondering if I could kill him myself, or if I would need to hire somebody to do it.... No, I think I could. I think he could be looking me in the eye, you know, and I could just be choking the life out of him." [Responding to the question, "What would people do for $50 million?," "The Glenn Beck Program," May 17, 2005.]
"When I see a 9/11 victim family on television, or whatever, I'm just like, 'Oh shut up' I'm so sick of them because they're always complaining." ["The Glenn Beck Program," September 9, 2005.]
"The only [Katrina victims] we're seeing on television are the scumbags." ["The Glenn Beck Program," September 9, 2005.]
"This president I think has exposed himself over and over again as a guy who has a deep-seated hatred for white people or the white culture.... I'm not saying he doesn't like white people, I'm saying he has a problem. This guy is, I believe, a racist." [On President Obama, sparking an advertiser exodus from his FOX News show.]
"Progressivism is the cancer in America and it is eating our Constitution, and it was designed to eat the Constitution, to progress past the Constitution."

Now for the Limbaugh soundbites:
"The difference between Los Angeles and yogurt is that yogurt comes with less fruit."
"The feminist movement was created to allow ugly women access to the mainstream of society"
"Women were doing quite well in this country before feminism came along"
"When a gay person turns his back on you, it is anything but an insult; it's an invitation."
"Take that bone out of your nose and call me back"
"They vote with their vagina's"
"If we are going to start rewarding no skills and stupid people - I'm serious, let the unskilled jobs, let the kinds of jobs that take absolutely no knowledge whatsoever to do - let stupid and unskilled Mexicans do that work."

Mr. Loehr ends with this,
The spirit of these three Americans is the same spirit that filled Streicher. It is a spirit of hateful bigotry, preparing the way for these vulgar sentiments to become deadly atrocities. The overwhelming majority of Americans, like the overwhelming majority of Germans, are far better than this. We need to respond, not by stooping to the same level, but by reminding ourselves that the better angels of our nature call us to a higher standard. A great nation is at stake.

And so I have an anonymous commenter who today said this...
Did you know that Jesus prayed for the liberals of His day? He said, “Father,
forgive them for they know not what they do.” They then proceeded with His
execution and persecuted His followers. Nothing much has changed. More than
two thousand years later, liberals continue to consent to the Savior’s death, and
to persecute His followers. Oh, yes, and they still don’t have a clue.

Just being reported on Countdown... Beck is calling on Americans to leave their churches that preach "social justice".  The guy is delusional, everything he says about God and the Bible are the opposite of the truth.  Maybe now with this new revelation the conservatives who listen to and believe Beck will see the truth. The guy absolutely is possessed!

Kind of a stretch, especially given the tone of dialog lately, but I guess this stuff fires up the base.

Anybody remember that Bush assassination movie???

Nina Totenberg: "[I]f there is retributive justice [Sen. Jesse Helms] will get AIDS from a transfusion, or one of his grandchildren will get it."

Julianne Malveaux about Justice Clarence Thomas: "I hope his wife feeds him lots of eggs and butter and he dies early like many black men do, of heart disease."

Evan Thomas about Paula Jones: "some sleazy woman with big hair coming out of the trailer parks ..."

Evan about Reagan: "he had a kind of an intuitive idiot genius."

Bill Maher on the Pentagon shooting: ""When we see crazy, senseless deaths like this, we can only ask why, why, why couldn't it have been Glenn Beck?"

See how easy it is to play this game?

Streicher was deadly serious. These people, left and right are using sarcasm and other rhetorical devices to make a point.

Lisa said...

Of course Bill Maher called the 9/11 hijackers brave. Behind the indoctrination of the Ivory Towers professors like the former PLO member and Obama's buddy Rashid Khalidi spouting anti-American rants.
The good thing is we always turn to Sean Penn,Keith Olberman,Rev Wright or Louis Farrakhan for their words of wisdom.

Jolly Roger said...

Interesting.... I compared Liz Cheney to Streicher just the other day :)

Is there a chance in hell that there are any Rushpubliscums who even know the name? Other than the Nazi-loving hardcore "base," of course.

Lisa the Leech: Gag it. Only retards use tedious repitition.

Wow, I've wondered where lisa went. I thought maybe she'd been picked up for a court-ordered evaluation.

Really, she should be, you know. She makes the average "teabagger" look sane and intelligent.

Like bashing teabaggers and Christians right Leslie?

their point tho silver is going straight to the sick brains of the rightwing base of morons who hang on every word of hate coming from those 3 idiots. Talk is talk, it's who is listening and also about purposely riling up the masses of idiots to spur violence.

But Sue, history is replete with people saying ridiculous and inflammatory things, and my point is it comes from all sides.

What if someone took your attacks on Glenn Beck seriously and killed him? Would that be your fault? Keith Olbermanns? After all, killing the "Worst Person in the World" must be a good thing, right?

We are responsible for our own actions.

Sue,
All that stupid in one place (Beck, Coulter and Rush) gives me a migrane Please don't do that to your readers again. :)

lisa - put a sock in it. Their are assholes on both sides, but your side has committed far more crazy and violent acts (IRS building, significant increase in hate groups since Obama has been elected (see the Southern Poverty Law Center study published about a week ago), and Michele Bachmann who is actually managed to get re-elected to Congress despite the crazy shit that comes out of her mouth daily (she really needs some serious mental help - like a psychiatric intervention).

The crazy liberals are more than out numbered (by at least a 2-1 margin) by just the teabaggers alone who can't even decide what they are pissed off about.

Sue said...

point taken silver, but ya gotta admit Bill Maher is hilarious and always makes me laugh out loud!!

Jolly Roger why did you delete that last comment it was a good one? I added you to my bloglist BTW!

... and any comparison between anyone in the public arena in this country and Streicher is historically ignorant and inapt.

Streicher was a serious propagandist for a hideous criminal regime that murdered millions of people.

Many lefties and righties in this country are political propagandists and polemicists, but I don't think anyone is seriously advocating death or violence.

If people can't put hyperbole, sarcasm and other rhetorical devices in proper context, then they should turn off the TV and the radio.

Sue said...

Lisa G, I know it's amazing shit huh!
You're right about those teabaggers, I'm so confused by what they actually stand for, I can see why they are confused too!
Is Bachmann ever gonna be up for re-election? She has to be in the perfect district of retards doesn't she? Such amazing stupidity coming from the mouth of one stupid woman.

Oh, Sue, I think Maher is damn near a comical genius. Coining the word "religulous" was brilliant, but I notice he's amped up the anger over the years. I also think the right unfairly plastered him for the terrorist comment, but people in the public arena get plastered all the time. It's a hazard of the job.

I love Jon Stewart, even when he shreds people I like.

Sue said...

this is a very different time in our country silver. I think the crazies do advocate murder. Look at the abortion doctors murdered, that tells you right there the fanatics on the right will stop at nothing to get their message out.

Sue said...

are all the great comics lefties? That must prove we are way more fun, yup I think that's very true. We concentrate on things like tree hugging as opposed to murdering doctors. That sounds sarcastic but not meant to be, just a simple fact.

TAO said...

Oh, no doubt there are propagandists on both sides of the aisle...

But lets be realistic does the left hate machine have its on news outlet like the right does? Lets be honest Fox News IS THE OFFICIAL Public Relatins Firm for the Conservatives/Republicans.

When I walk into Barnes and Noble, is there ever a time when there are no displays of books by Coulter, Beck, or the mirade of others who parade their right wing propaganda?

Last time I remember a liberal getting the same display was Al Franken and that was a long time ago...

It 'ain't the same'

silver,

The folks on the left you named have no where near the audiences that Limbaugh, Beck, and Hannity have.

I challenge you to stand on a treet corner anywhere in the US and ask people if they know who Nina Totenberg is vs. Rush Limbaugh or Glenn Beck.

The only person who comes close is Maher, but he's on infrequently, not daily, nor is his program n year round, and you have to purchase HBO to get him in your livingroom.

The equivalence example can go only so far.

If there were awards for the loudest and most far-reaching propaganda machine, it would have to go to the Right because of the number of outlets they have on a daily basis on radio and teevee, to spreach [my neologism for "spread" and "preach"] their propaganda.

I challenge you or anyone here to come up with the name of someone on the Left who has the same influence on Democratic pols as Limbaugh has over Rightwing pols.

No Leftwing politician has had to apologize to Keith Olbermann or Rachel Maddow for criticizing them. Yet Rightwing pols' obeisance to Limbaugh has been documented. If any of them say something critical about him, they've had to kiss his posterior to win back his favor.

Nothing like that exists on the Left. And hasn't in the past, to my knowledge.

So rightwing radio and tv is more popular than the lib shows. So what?

tnlib said it best:

"what's good for the goose is good for the dander. If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. You ask for it loud and clear."

Leslie Parsley said...

SF: Wrong. That comment was directed toward one person and one person only. Don't tangle with Shaw - she'll leave you behind in two seconds flat and without benefit of first aid.

The popularity of the wing-nut TV and radio shows only indicates the corporate money - Murdoch - that supports them. Dems aren't blessed with those kinds of big bucks and the MSM is totally subservient to the corporations.

Anonymous said...

OK, then I'll say it myself:

What's good for the goose is good for the gander. If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.

MSNBC and the left talk about Rush and Beck more than I do!

Leslie Parsley said...

SF: I just posted a piece about the reaction of religious leaders to those hideous remarks Beck made about churches that promote social justice. I find them utterly reprehensible and irresponsible.

Jolly Roger said...

Jolly Roger why did you delete that last comment it was a good one? I added you to my bloglist BTW!

I screwed up the word "misogyny." And I hate when I do that :)

Anyway, Sue said...

Talk is talk, it's who is listening and also about purposely riling up the masses of idiots to spur violence.

And I agreed with her thusly...

Right you are, Sue: most of us do not tolerate the advocating of violence against anyone, even if we personally despise them. Any time someone made a comment on my blog about advocating violence against any politician, I deleted it and blacked them out so they could never comment again.

I have, however, tolerated comments advocating violence against the dope addicted pedophile Limbaugh, the inbred anchor baby bigoted hypocrite Malkin, the felonious transvestite C__tler, and the alcoholic misogynist clown Beck. Those who live by the sword and all that.

Jolly Roger said...

And the blogrolling is reciprocated, BTW :)

Rather than work myself into a frenzy, I'll keep it (relatively) short....

Coulter...she referred to a group of 9/11 widows as "The Witches of East Brunswick". I live in East Brunswick, nine people from this town died on September 11. I find Coulter cruel, offensive, and possibly the skankiest woman in North America. May she get on her broom, fly into the sunset, and do her best impression of Amelia Earhart. Hasta la vista, baby!

Limbaugh....the guy beat the draft during Vietnam because he had a cyst on his heinie when he was young...but he told people for years he was "4F" because of "a football injury".....it was the first of many in his lucrative career of telling big lies for big bucks.

Beck....why mince words? This guy is Paddy Chayefski's Howard Beale come to life. How can anybody take FOX NEWS seriously when they parade this mentally unstable trainwreck to a national audience everyday? He might be the first FOX commentator ever to host a show from the deluxe accommodations of Bellevue.

But...I don't get as upset with these guys as some of you do.

I just remember the words of the great George Carlin...."Think about how stupid the average person is....and half the people are even stupider than that".

20 million DittoHeads. Coulter with another best seller. Beck is #1 on FNC.

Old George is looking down from the heaven he didn't believe in....and he's laughing his ass off!

"Tis easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than to get a coherent thought from Glenn Beck"....a quote credited to "Socialist Jesus".

Sue said...

Thanks for coming back JR, and thanks ;-)

Hugh, so right about skanky Coulter and the rest of her friends. Beck has the right after him tonight as does Lizard Cheney. They are on a roll!!

silver we can't help but talk about Beck and Limpy, they are so much fun to make fun of!

addicted pedophile Limbaugh, the inbred anchor baby bigoted hypocrite Malkin, the felonious transvestite C__tler, and the alcoholic misogynist clown Beck.
