Yes he did..

President Obama said "Thank you Sue",

My "personal" thank you, :-))))

Sue --
For the first time in our nation's history, Congress has passed comprehensive health care reform. America waited a hundred years and fought for decades to reach this moment. Tonight, thanks to you, we are finally here.

Consider the staggering scope of what you have just accomplished:

Because of you, every American will finally be guaranteed high quality, affordable health care coverage.

Every American will be covered under the toughest patient protections in history. Arbitrary premium hikes, insurance cancellations, and discrimination against pre-existing conditions will now be gone forever.

And we'll finally start reducing the cost of care -- creating millions of jobs, preventing families and businesses from plunging into bankruptcy, and removing over a trillion dollars of debt from the backs of our children.

But the victory that matters most tonight goes beyond the laws and far past the numbers.

It is the peace of mind enjoyed by every American, no longer one injury or illness away from catastrophe.

It is the workers and entrepreneurs who are now freed to pursue their slice of the American dream without fear of losing coverage or facing a crippling bill.

And it is the immeasurable joy of families in every part of this great nation, living happier, healthier lives together because they can finally receive the vital care they need.

This is what change looks like.

My gratitude tonight is profound. I am thankful for those in past generations whose heroic efforts brought this great goal within reach for our times. I am thankful for the members of Congress whose months of effort and brave votes made it possible to take this final step. But most of all, I am thankful for you.

This day is not the end of this journey. Much hard work remains, and we have a solemn responsibility to do it right. But we can face that work together with the confidence of those who have moved mountains.

Our journey began three years ago, driven by a shared belief that fundamental change is indeed still possible. We have worked hard together every day since to deliver on that belief.

We have shared moments of tremendous hope, and we've faced setbacks and doubt. We have all been forced to ask if our politics had simply become too polarized and too short-sighted to meet the pressing challenges of our time. This struggle became a test of whether the American people could still rally together when the cause was right -- and actually create the change we believe in.

Tonight, thanks to your mighty efforts, the answer is indisputable: Yes we can.

Thank you,

President Barack Obama

 I'm PROUD of them all!!

It's a great gitin'-up morning.

Save for this entry in my daily journal this morning:

7:10 a.m. I just read on cnn.com that somone in the House last night yelled "baby killer" at Bart Stupak while he was addressing House Republicans. Stupak had very strong anti-abortion convictions and would not vote “yes” until promised by Obama he would issue an executive order barring any federally funded abortion coverage in the bill.

That, coupled with reports of Tea Party protesters on Capitol Hill yelling "nigger" at James Clyburn (D-SC) and John Lewis (D-GA), both veterans of the civil rights movement, calling Barney Frank (D-MA) a "faggot" and spitting on Emanuel Cleaver (D-MD), are just too much for my stomach to take.

I pray the MSM has given these outbursts coverage. Most of the Republicans and onservatives among my family and friends are NOT like this, but I do hope they are aware of what's going on in the name of their Party.

Now, that we've provided for healthcare, can we pray for healing of "the great common human heart of us all"?

A great accomplishment for Obama and the Congressional Democrats. It will lift a huge amount of suffering off of people, and serve notice to the insurance companies that the government has its eye on their abusive practices.

As for the epithets BJ mentions, those are the fulminations of sore losers. Go to a few right-wing blogs and read their posts and comments over the last few days and you'll see even scarier stuff. Civil rights didn't pass without a lot of enraged rhetoric (and worse) from the opposition either. It's part of the price we pay for progress.

What a fun night, now back to work exposing the rightwing hatemongers! lol

Yes, We Did... I am so excited for everyone and just glad we got past this so we can start seeing the benefits... I know most of them won't start right away..... but if all works out they will be implemented sooner than scheduled.

It takes time to start all these programs and fixes to the country.

By the way... Cleaver is from my state.. Missouri.. or MO not as was reported MD... There is video and sound of the "baby killer" comment at Think Progress I believe it was.... disgusting and sad.. but then so was the entire Rethug party if you ask me. The Tan Man was most disgusting and should win an award for being the most ignorant speaker on record.

Sue,

David Frum wrote an astonishing piece on his blog about how the GOP screwed itself with its slavish allegiance to the right-wing hate talkers like Limbaugh and Beck and how they sorely miscalulated the numbers of people who supported this reform.

I've got it posted on my blog for conservatives and liberals to read.

Sue...you got an email too?

What a great guy the President is, sending out personal emails after midnight like that...it must have taken him hours. How thoughtful.

Glad I voted for him.

But seriously...

I heard some of Frum's interview (I'm not sure if it was on CNN or MSNBC- was writing and listening)- and was taken by how down he was on the Republican leadership and their tactics, and how they brought this down on themsleves...and that their chance of recovery is so slim).

For example...the "donut hole" in Medicare is going to be closed with this passage. The Republicans are going to campaign for repeal in the fall in the congressional races.

So do they think that America's seniors and retirees are going to vote for guys who want to REPEAL the bill who lets them save hundreds or even thousands of dollars at the beginning of each year by closing that idiotic donut hole?

I don't think so.

As for the racial and homophobic epithets- that might have been a thing that galvanized the Dems in the end. Some conservative sources are screaming that they were plants in the crowd by the Dems, and almost immediately conservatives put out a video stating their case.

I also received one of those emails and I'm thrilled beyond belief about the whole thing.

Funny how the Republicans are always falsely accusing the Democrats of doing all the low level things they do. I guess that GOP Rep. who called Stupak a "Baby Killer" was a Democratic plant!

We can't expect the GOP "leadership" to denounce this ugly behavior when they indulge in it themselves.

Annette the rethugs never cease to amaze the country. They acted horribly on the floor last night, even after their "daddy" told them not to!

Shaw thanks I will be by to read your post.

Hugh isn't that so thoughtful of our dear president? Even calling us by first name! :-)
I can't wait til the rethugs start campaigning to repeal this, what friggin morons. The hole just gets bigger and bigger! Their demise is their own doing not ours.

Leslie they can't help themselves, they are just ignorant people and their base of followers are just as stupid.

A good op-ed by Krugman in the NY Times - Fear Strikes Out.

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/22/opinion/22krugman.html?ref=opinion

It goes without saying that the people who should be reading it won't. But ignorance is bliss.

Now that this has been passed, Grayson and Sanders have a lot of work ahead of them and I hope they live up to their hype.

I would have responded earlier, but after reading Donna's email, I passed out there for a bit.

Sue said...

thanks Leslie, I'll get there today for sure!

C, I knew you would faint when you saw our Donna dropped by! Wasn't that so sweet of her? She sure is missed.

I hope ALL the progressives start their massive campaigning, I believe they will!

You know, it's really sad and shows deep signs of a desparate person to troll blogs. If that's the only way a person can get attention, then it is pathetic as well.
