Oh, the right gets it. They just don't give a shit. They are not interested in helping the economy. They just want to help their benefactors, the middle class be damned.
The financial parasite class themselves do know this, of course. To them, the tax breaks and the growing wealth for themselves are the point, not just a means to something else.
As for the people in the lower 99% who believe what the parasite class tells them, and still have faith in trickle-down economics and tax-break-driven job growth -- well, there's a reason why it's mostly the less-educated part of the population that votes Republican.
Then go look at the simple economic facts of what happened between 1980 and 2000.
It was a historically unprecedented economic boom.
It was killed by turbo-charged government spending and crony crapitalism. Yeah, this in one we can pin on Bush, and Obama doubled down on his disastrous policies...
This historical economic boom was largely during the Clinton years. Reagan was always struggling and even raised taxes against his religion.
Demand drives the economy the MIDDLE CLASS driven demand to be exact.
Then go look at the simple economic facts of what happened between 1980 and 2000.
Reagan and his merry bunch of crony capitalists came to power and began the right wing systematic destruction of the middle class, and the Union jobs that the middle class was based on since the great depression.
They began running ever increasing amounts of government debt to undermine the government at the same time out sourcing the government programs to their crony capitalist friends to rip off the tax payer and destroy the middle class even more(after the safety nets are destroyed, when a middle class family loses their jobs to right wing sponsored and ideological outsourcing they have nothing to fall back on but poverty and low paying temp jobs.
They used many fraudulent banking schemes whether the savings and loan scandals cooked up when Reagan was in the white House, or the dismantling of depression era laws top stop the financial meltdowns pushed by wall Street cronies, to further tilt the playing field against the middle class.
Add to the the shoddy way they held wall street and their international counter parts to actual regulation (the LIBOR rip off makes Bernie Madoff's ponzie scheme look like a nickel and dime routine).
The "boom" was an illusion which anybody who understands both macro economics and the results of trickle down lies combined with ever deteriorating government oversight can only result in a return to a time when the economy could not sustain the middle class so it must collapse because with out the middle class driving engine of the economy like it has since FDR's time the economy MUST contract.

Ronald Reagan's debt still hangs over every Americans head 30 years later the right wing has NEVER offered a HONEST scorable plan to deal with that let alone the debt both Bush's piled on top before the right wing ideological inspired great recession crashed both the middle class and government revenues for decades to come.
Obama has little room to maneuver given the tremendous debt load the right wing reactionary anti tax(read that anti pay the debt you run up )crowd laid on his combined with the ridiculous way the right wing has dismantled the middle class to the benefit of a very small portion of the population which cannot by themselves support any economy as large as the US had before the right wing destroyed it.

I understand 'trickle down' economics...... it means I'm getting pissed on again.
These are the numbers available from the U.S. Treasury Dept. The actual dates may look like Jan 16 or Jan 22, but i basically searched for the numbers relevant to both presidencies. Yes, the evidence is extremely damning. Romney is going to ram these numbers like a horny bull until November. But we need to consider what really happened when Bush decided to double the national debt and let there be hell to pay. You may ask why did we owe less on Obama's inauguration day than the last day of Bush's presidency. From what I could make out, the debt actually went down a few billion the first ten days of Obama's presidency.
Jan 19, 2009: 10,628,881,485,510.
Jan. 20, 2001: -5,727,776,738,304.

Bush was not some kind of renegade, softie, classic tax and spend liberal like LBJ. He was extremely pro-business. Pro-business to the point he wanted the oil companies to run the world economy. Pro-business to the point he didn't give a shit about immigration reform, only the flow of cheap labor from south of the border. He was a fucking war pig who started two wars only to enrich the owner and investment classes of the military-industrial complex. But these wars didn't pull the poor and unemployed out of their desperation. They didn't raise the middle class and send millions of GIs to college. These were non-competitive contracts awarded to friends for the express purpose of robbing the U.S. Treasury to enrich the friends of the Bush crime family. One hundred dollars for a gallon of gas. Big F.O.B.s for no other purpose than building up contracts to rip off the American people. No sacrifice here at home. "Go out and shop," was the Bush refrain.
This unprecedented nightmare scenario of greed and callous disregard for human life as well as the loss of American honor and prestige around the world was what Obama inherited as president.
Obama's biggest problem, even more daunting than the world-wide economic collapse brought about by the recklessly accelerated corruption of the Bush presidency, was how to wind down these two evil wars with their unheard of built-in costs. A lesser man probably would have simply given up. Perhaps just given in to the the insane demands of the Wall Street investors and conservative power mavins. Obama quit smoking. We're talking balls-out manhood. It also needs to be said, that after the deregulation nightmare that Bush started as governor of Texas in the energy industry, a certain amount of money needed to be used to salve the national wound. Thank you for paying attention. Obama's policies have more or less saved the world from a systemic, economic depression. And finally, any heartless bastard that thinks disenfranchising people out of the health care system is going to create jobs or bring about unimagined prosperity is just fucking stupid.

One big difference is that bush started with a good economy and a balanced budget, while Obama started with a crashed economy and a huge budget deficit.
You know how it is with folks like Silverfiddle and his heroes. They love running up big bills, and leaving the check on the table for the rest of us.
Saint Ronnie's freeloader "base" is the biggest bunch of entitlement-class crybabies any society ever produced. If they had actually had to live by the "pull yourself up" BS they shove on everyone else, they'd have all starved to death years ago.
