Contrasting President Obama with the hypocrite Right..

What a day! Actually I wanted to do a post on the contrast between President Obama's morning speaking at the National Prayer Breakfast, and Willard Mitt Romney's afternoon accepting the endorsement of The Donald Trump. I think you all know how the day went...

President Obama spoke with elegance and grace as he quoted scripture, he spoke about shared responsibility, his belief in God's command to love thy neighbor as thyself, he said "I am my brother's keeper, I am my sister's keeper, that as a country we rise and fall together. I'm not an island. I'm not alone in my success. I succeed because others succeed with me. And when I decide to stand up for foreign aid, or prevent atrocities in places like Uganda, or take on issues like human trafficking, it's not just about strengthening alliances, or promoting democratic values, or projecting American leadership around the world, although it does all those things and it will make us safer and more secure. It's also about the biblical call to care for the least of these -- for the poor; for those at the margins of our society.... Treating others as you want to be treated. ....Requiring much from those who have been given so much..... Living by the principle that we are our brother's keeper..... Caring for the poor and those in need.....Was President Obama sending a message to the Religious Right they need to practice what they preach?, their claim to be the Party of God is hypocritical?, that he, Barack Obama, really is a Christian ???  A Democratic president, a Christian?? Oh No, It's the Republicans, they are the Christians we should put our trust in as leaders of the free world! Really? Republicans don't quote scripture, they never talk about Jesus' teaching to care for those less fortunate, to be your brothers keeper...have you noticed?? They talk about abortion, class warfare, the privileged not the down trodden....these things are not in their Bible...anyway....

Mitt was endorsed by The Donald...woofuckinhoo...how embarrassing is that?? js...

So while I was reading the transcript from the Prayer Breakfast I skimmed over the always interesting comments from the peanut gallery and knew this one was gonna be a blog post for today..this guy was replying to a religious rightie who was blaming Obama for the abortion rate, the fact that birth control pills and condoms did not work 100% of the time therefore some unwanted pregnancies occurred, which of course he blamed on the Immoral Majority and Pres. Obama.....so goes the reply,

ehkzu
3:17 PM EST
The biblical injunction against killing was never intended to apply to anything but human beings--which the Bible defines as those who have been out of the womb successfully for 30 days or more.

The idea that it means anything else was invented in the mid-19th century by the head of one putatively Christian church, who claimed he could change the Bible's meaning as he saw fit, and did so according to his understanding of 19th century science, not anything scriptural.

Then this putatively Christian church managed to convince Protestants of the same thing by waterboarding the rules of logic to inject talk about fetuses and abortion into the Bible post hoc. It now uses sonograms to invent thoughts and feelings for fetuses, with as much basis in reality as the "diagnosis" by Congressional Republicans of Terry Schiavo's "thoughts and feelings" when her skull held nothing but a brain stem and fluid.

And I notice that in ccnl1's rant against the President, he/she/it says exactly nothing about actual babies and actual children--who die of starvation daily worldwide by the tens of thousands, and thousands of whom are kept as actual slaves in the USA right now--plus the millions living in terrible circumstances--thus confirming the liberals' charge that self-appointed "Pro-Life" people have no interest in doing what Christ actually told them to do.

Actual people like the cases of pregnant children as young as ten years old in Latin America who that same putatively Christian church uses its control over government to force to carry their rapist's fetus to term and try to give birth when their bodies are completely unprepared to do so. Such callous disregard for raped actual children is appalling.

Or how about the lady in Arizona a year or so ago who would have died--along with the fetus, which wasn't viable yet--if she hadn't gotten an abortion? This same putatively Christian church promptly excommunicated the church administrator who okayed the abortion.

Worse yet, the world's total population is increasing at the rate of over 140 people A MINUTE. Even today it would take 1.4 Earths to sustainably care for the number of people that exist now. We are literally killing the only place in the entire Universe that we know can keep us alive. A billion people are starving at any given time.

Which make the anti-abortion movement actually the Pro-Death movement.

They say the path to Hell is paved with good intentions. Here's the proof.

As for "human life starts at conception"--Not identical twins. Not chimeras. Not all the non-viable fertilized eggs--the ectopic pregnancies, the ones that fail to implant naturally, the ones that aren't genetically viable, the ones that aren't compatible with the mother's biochemistry. A fertilized egg is a fertilized egg, not an itsy bitsy man or woman.

But even if it were, we'd still need every nation on Earth to adopt China's One Child policy. Now that really would be a "Pro-Life" stance.

What a contrast.

Obama: I am my brother's keeper, I am my sister's keeper, that as a country we rise and fall together. I'm not an island. I'm not alone in my success. I succeed because others succeed with me.

Romney responding to Trump's endorsement: "There are some things you can't imagine in life and this is one of them,"

The difference between a Statesman and a Clown.

Republican leadership is only interested in the Bible insofar as it can use it to convince people to vote against their own economic self interest.

Jesus wisely said;

Matthew 22:21 "Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's"

The republiscumbaggers through the Christian right wing no compromise theology is trying to forcibly merge the two in violation of the very words of those they claim to follow.

I wonder why?????

Could their love of power and money "trump" their adherance of the rest of Jesus message?

Oh wait Jesus denied the power or money as a way to follow him.

Remember what Jesus said about the rich????????

Not the modern lies the right wing tells everyone he said but the ACTUAL quotes?

Mark 10:17-25;

17 And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life? 18 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.

19 Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother. 20 And he answered and said unto him, Master, all these have I observed from my youth. 21 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.

22 And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions.

23 And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! 24 And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God! 25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

Too bad the modern get rich Christianity doesn't follow what Christ said here.

Too bad they give his ideology such a bad name in the way they act eh??????

Cause if followed correctly, his ideology would create a better place here on this planet.

IE pay your taxes, and take care of the poor, widows, and powerless amoung you.

How anti-republiscumbagger of Jesus.

Yeah. Here's more evidence of how a lot of GOPers work to "protect" children:

WASHINGTON -- In a speech expounding on the rift between rural America and Washington D.C., Rep. Denny Rehberg (R-Mont.) vowed Thursday to use his funding powers to stop the Obama administration from implementing new child-labor rules pertaining to agricultural work, accusing the "urban" Labor Department of meddling in a "rural" industry it doesn't understand.

Because what could be more pro-child than working to oppose child-labor laws that would not allow kids to work in the agriculture sector with heavy equipment and long hours--instead of studying and getting an education?

I'm not concerned about the very poor.

You're concerned about your own sweet ass. I'm thinking more and more Romney is on some type of amphetamines. But lets' not rush to take his remark out of context. He's just saying his campaign is all about lifting up the American middle class. If someone loses everything they have, or if they never have anything at all, we can be sure to find a bed for them at a homeless shelter and three hot meals, of course. Maybe in exchange for a little janitorial work.

You can focus your campaign on the very rich. I'm not about that.

Liar, liar, pants on fire. What about your ideas on the tax code? You make GWB look like a true man of the people.

I want to help middle income Americans, the ninety-nine and one-half percent.

It's nice to know that so many Americans have escaped the grip of poverty. I guess those Occupy guys are a little bit mixed up.

...those badly hurt during the Obama presidency!

Fucking liar ratfink! I have not been hurt by the Obama presidency. It has only helped my family, in particular my twenty-four year old niece who is currently in remission after intensive therapy for acute lymphocytic leukemia. You would repeal that bill you heartless bastard.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Rmoney's tax plan would benefit the already fabulously wealthy and put more burdens on the poor.

He was speaking the truth when he said he's not concerned with the poor.

From the Boston Globe:

"Under a Romney presidency, most of the current tax system would remain intact, although he would permanently do away with the estate tax and lower the corporate rate from 35 percent to 25 percent.

He would also make permanent the Bush tax cuts that are scheduled to expire at the end of the year.

While millions of households would see tax cuts, thousands of poor Americans would see their tax bills rise, by an average of $1,000, because of changes to child and earned income credits.

Those making more than $1 million a year would get a tax cut of about $150,000 -- amounting to about half of the total tax cuts he proposes, according to Howard Gleckman, a fellow at the Urban Institute and editor of the Tax Policy Center’s budget policy blog, “TaxVox.”

“Romney says he’d rewrite the entire tax code – someday. But he doesn’t say how or when,” Gleckman wrote today. “Until he does, a Romney administration’s revenue agenda would look a lot like President George W. Bush’s, just more so.”

Sue said...

the contrast is evident, and we know what a disaster a Romney presidency would be....but do the Independents and moderates know, and will they look at the movement of the numbers, the TRENDING up?? We are coming out of this recession, month by month you can see the evidence, but the voters, they scare me because they are so ignorant of the facts and are so quick to believe the wolves in sheep's clothing.

It's times like this I wish I had no interest in politics..

Isn't it amazing those who profess to follow the word of God know nothing about the word of God? These are the very men we were told to fear, they really are "fake Christians" and truly evil!

Orrin Hatch needs to STFU!!!

Hatch, who normally favors co-mingling government and religion, was on the floor of the Senate expressing outrage at the president for using the Bible to make a point.

“Just this morning at the National Prayer Breakfast, the president took what has always been a non-partisan opportunity for national unity and used to promote his political agenda,” Hatch complained. “He suggested to the attendees that Jesus would have supported his latest tax-the-rich schemes. With due respect to the president, he ought to stick to public policy. I think most Americans would agree that the Gospels are concerned with weightier matters than effective tax rates.”

“In 2008, the president declared that his nomination was the world historical moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal,” Hatch recalled.

“Someone needs to remind the president that there was only one person who walked on water, and he did not occupy the Oval Office.”

Hatch, however, has made the case for religion in public policy when it suits his needs.

The real guy Reagan today would be dismissed as a pussy moderate republican much as the hard-core right are trying to paint Romney and my own beloved/hated rep, Brian Bilbray. He would be just another socially aware, Hollywood elite, immigrant-loving, anti-war, peace freak hippie, with no real love for the uber-wealthy worshipping, John Bircher/Tea Party, poor/brown people-hating true believers. When total right-wing, lifelong loyal conservative republicans are labelled "not conservative enough," you know the party is imploding from within. Maybe Hitler was conservative enough. Pretty soon, even Gingrich and Limbaugh won't be conservative enough. Don't they get that the whole idea was to funnel public funds into private coffers? The greater the fraud, abuse and deficit, the bigger the pot! These poor bastards are cheering the wrong team.

Sue said...

how much longer do we have to wait for the implosion??

Flying Junior said...

Hopefully just nine more months.

clif said...

The first wave of that implosion, will happen sometime between, Aug 27-Aug 30, 2012 in Tampa Florida.

The second and final wave, will be .003 seconds, after Barack Obama is declared the winner on Tuesday, November 6, 2012.

Hopefully their heads will individually implode enough, so they can learn to be more tolerant and open minded, of the rest of the country and planet.

But I ain't betting anything like that will ever happen in this century.

Obama's brother is living in a crap shack in Africa on 50 cents a day while effete Ivy League metrosexuals Obama and Michelle rake in millions.

Regardless of the state his various relatives are living in, couldn't he spread some of his own wealth around helping these various brothers, aunts and uncles?

What was that again about Obama being his brother's keeper?

You are making the common mistake of listening to what a politician says instead of watching what he does

Silverfiddle said...

@ Shaw: Because what could be more pro-child than working to oppose child-labor laws that would not allow kids to work in the agriculture sector with heavy equipment and long hours--instead of studying and getting an education?

What an ignorant statement. You obviously did not grow up on a farm, nor do you know anyone who did.

You learn a lot of responsibility growing up that way, and you make money and generally stay out of trouble because you're too busy working.

And how about some statistics showing farm kids drop out at a higher than average rate? Your statement was typical fact-free feel-good liberal pablum.

Sue said...

where does your info come from SF??? How in the hell do you know what the Obamas do with their wealth?? Sheeeeeez....

Sue said...

SF, there is quite a difference between children working on family farms with daddy and grandpa, as opposed to children working for a wage on farms instead of the local grocery store or fast food chain. Farm equipment is extremely dangerous even for experienced grown men..

Jerry Critter said...

Come on, Silverfidle. Did someone tweak your bow? You are usually above such BS comments.

Shaw Kenawe said...

SF: "Obama's brother is living in a crap shack in Africa on 50 cents a day while effete Ivy League metrosexuals Obama and Michelle rake in millions."

This is a fine example of the hysterical nonsense infecting the extreme rightwing and an example of their inability to come to terms with the inadequate blockheads they've paraded in front of the American people as candidates for the POTUS.

Tell us all, SF, how you know personally about Mr. Obama's brother and how he takes care of him. Please tell us all when the POTUS gave you details of what he does for his brother. We're waiting breathlessly to hear how you manage this extremely inside information about Mr. Obama's personal family life.

Did Megan Kelly tell you?

But back to why people like SF are so riled up these days.

Look at who they have had to settle for:

A 99 percenter flip-flopping gazillionaire with off-shore bank accounts and a 14% tax rate on his hundreds of millions, who can't get out of his own way in expressing himself and had to suck up to a peruked jackass like Donald Trump for an endorsement.

The disgraced ex-Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich? SF comes here and has the cojones to question Mr. Obama's family values while a serial adulterer and megalomaniacal lout is seen as a viable candidate to inhabit the White House by the family values GOP?

The dimwitted Texas governor? The de-gaying knucklebrain from Minnesota?

Rick "Torequemada" Santorum who would end a woman's right to choose, believes birth control is "wrong," and would reinstate DADT?

Where do they get these people?

Their unleashed anger and malevolence is nothing more than a way to divert attention from the pathetic inadequates the GOP have put before the American people as choices for POTUS.

I guess if I were in their unfortunate shoes, I too would be out of my mind with despair and banging my head until I was bloodied as well. Perhaps that would be a way of escaping the horrid reality they have to live with.

The funniest part of SF's comment was where he calls the Obamas "...effete Ivy League metrosexuals Obama and Michelle rake in millions."

My dear SF, you say that as if it were a bad thing!

Silverfiddle said...

I have no knowledge of Obama's kinfolk other than what I read in the news.

I also think it's useful to point out that the Obama's are part of the 1%.

And I understand the dangers of farm equipment. I grew up working on farms, and a friend lost his arm up to his elbow to a grain auger. And we weren't working, we were playing in a grain elevator.

Shaw Kenawe said...

"I also think it's useful to point out that the Obama's are part of the 1%."

And it's also useful to point out the excruciatingly obvious:

A person HAS TO BE RICH to run for the presidency.

Mr. Obama has said time and time again that he's doing just fine, and that it is unfair for him, as a 1 percenter, to be taxed lower than the people who serve on the staff at the WH.

It seems odd that you, a GOPer, would bring up the Obama's wealth. Everytime a Democrat brings up that subject on, say, Wall Street or CEOs, the GOPers yell CLASS WARFARE!

There's no hypocrisy in the Obama's wealth--and they're practically paupers compared with Rmoney.

Mr. Obama wants his tax rate to go to where it was during the Clinton years. Mr. Rmoney, enjoys sending his great wealth to a foreign country to avoid taxes. How patriotic. And the wealth that is taxed is taxed at 14%.

And, if I recall correctly, I don't remember the Obamas buying a $12 million dollar home in a fancy neighborhood in Lajolla CA only to knock it down to make a bigger mansion, as did the Rmoneys. The Rmoneys live in a mansion in Massachusetts and a humungous estate in New Hampshire. The Obamas own a home in Chicago worth about $1 million.

Stop trying to make the Obamas out to be wealthy tycoons, when compared with the baronial Rmoney, that just doesn't work.

Flying Junior said...

Silverfiddle,

You wouldn't know a metrosexual if one bit your dick on a "leave the wives at home" junket to Vegas.

Actually Shaw, Romney is still waiting for approval of his incredibly selfish plan to completely uglify one of the prettiest urban beaches in the world. Nothing has happened with his evil scheme since August. The Spanish colonial mansion in question can be seen here. I have walked by this very house hundreds of times since I was a twelve-year old boy. About one quarter mile to the south is the aptly named Little Point. Beyond that is the world-famous surfing beach Windansea. Kids like to skim and boogie-board or womp just to the north at the popular Sea Lane or Marine Street shore breaks. In 1966 a developer put up a hideous 20-story mega-condiminium warren, 939 Coast Blvd., right across the street from the La Jolla Cove. This caused the La Jolla Town Council to wake up and take action. There has been a thirty-foot height limit on buildings near the coast since the early 1970s. This has helped to preserve the beauty of the community. Romney wants to use every square foot of space on his lot to nearly quadruple the square footage of his house, squeeze in a second story just under the thirty-foot limit and even put in an out-of-variance huge basement, thusly destroying the appearance of an entire mile of pristine beaches.

The arrogant, colossal gall. He'll never get away with it. Just think how many months of heavy equipment, cranes, debris haulers, etc. What a total, fucking dickhead!

Sue said...

FJ, I am so envious of your beach life, I would love to live on the West coast...the house in question looks quite modest as is, well for a Romney that is...it would be terrible to give those people the go ahead to turn it into a monstrosity "just because he can". Good for him and his money, but when you get to a point where you can't possibly spend all your wealth, then why not do something worthwhile with it? How about opening up a factory in 6 of the most hardest hit states, a factory that could make products to sell right here in the USA and could employ Americans. Wouldn't you think something like that would make the Romneys feel so proud? What? Too liberal?? I have a hard time comprehending these types of people with their billions...it's not jealousy, it's the amazement I feel when a family can offer so much to end the suffering of a few, but greed or selfishness gets in the way.

I have a family member who won a million dollar lottery, this person never went to family and asked if there was anything they could do to ease a burden, not once in the 20 yrs of collecting the checks. One incident my sister-in-law confided in me was when she asked to borrow 300.00 and was told no....can you imagine? I find it hard to be around those people, always have....

Flying Junior said...

Mom and Dad still have a house near Windansea. I'm on the other side of a hill and a canyon on the southwestern edge of a mesa. It's sunnier over here and the roses don't mildew as much. But even La Jolla is sunny in the winter! Mild winters are turning my place into a semi-tropical paradise. I just hope we'll always have a rainy season. We get enough dew from the ocean to keep most of the trees and grass growing.

Silverfiddle said...

Messiah? Not one Liberal I have ever met in person or on the internet EVER refers to hims as "messiah."

I don't know how you and your felloiw bloggers manage to believe that silliness when everyone on the planet knows that many self-identified Liberals are very unhappy with him, unlike the slavish GOPers who refuse to admit President Reagan's colossal mistakes when he was the president.

We know when Obama makes mistakes, and we call him on it. You apparently don't read many Liberal blogs.

I, however, has visited rightwing blogs and actually read with astonishment someone dismiss Gingrich's deplorable marital history with this: "at least he was in love with those women, and not just messing around."

You believe we think Mr. Obama, with whatever faults he has, is a "messiah?" But a GOPer excuses Newt by saying at least Mr. Gingrich loved his parmours--all of them. Fekken amazing!

If I were Callista, though, I'd be a bit worried. You know what they say about a man who marries his mistress? It leaves a job opening.

By better than 2 to 1, Americans say the more they learn about Romney, the less they like him.

Even among Republicans, as many offer negative as positive assessments of him on this question.

Judgments about former House speaker Newt Gingrich, who denounced Romney on Saturday night in Nevada, are about 3 to 1 negative.
