Forget that last post title, the thugs AND the dems are destroying America while destroying Afghanistan....

US Approves $33bn for Afghanistan Troop Increase

The US House of Representatives has approved funds to pay for President Barack Obama's Afghanistan troop increase despite growing unhappiness with the war among his fellow Democrats.

"We’ve been in Afghanistan for nine years, making it the longest war in our nation’s history, and it’s come at a tremendous cost. We’ve tragically lost more than 1,100 American lives and spent close to $300 billion. We’ve also been in Iraq for seven years, where we’ve lost more than 4,400 American lives and spent more than $700 billion," explained Congressman John Garamendi, D-California, who added that, “Every dollar spent on war is a dollar not available for job creation in America, our schools, paying down the deficit, or helping those afflicted by natural and man-made disasters. The more than $30 billion allotted for the Afghanistan war could employ 300,000 teachers in schools across America."

And a comment from the article at commondreams.org......
9 years of war mongering and fear mongering, lies ,WMDs , the patriot act and 2 trillion dollars.... 6000 troops lives 80000 wounded and injured, 600000 Iraqi men women and children dead, 3 million Iraqi displaced, no peace in Iraq, violence increase in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Two countrys with infrastructure collapse, one we destroyed.
Our country has been hijacked by greedy right wing neocon bull shit artists and coward democrats.
AND WE PAY THE BILLS.
Our free press must change or be fired, mainstream TV media the same.

What is wrong with us? Why we allowing our government to do this? Is our government and military complex to large to be overthrown by the people? Are we so lazy and uninterested in the way they steal billions upon billions of our money to murder other people, innocent people, then claim to want to rebuild these countries that we invaded and destroyed to begin with? It's insane! And really insane is groups like the teabaggers protesting high taxes and a ballooning government when they should look at what's ballooning our debt, the wars, and protest that!! We are being taken for fools, we are being duped by our government! WE have the power to vote in this country and we don't use it. The majority of us want these wars to end, so put in place people like Barbara Lee and Dennis Kucinich, not warmongers like John McCain who calls a timetable a "purely political decision" and Lindsey Graham saying "if everybody in Afghanistan believes that we're going to begin to leave in July 2011 no matter what... we're gonna lose". Can you believe this bullshit?? There is NEVER gonna be a win Mr. Graham! Why is it uneducated stupid people like myself know that but our elected leaders do not??
From globalresearch.ca....
America today is a warfare state, the most powerful ever, and its leaders lie when they claim that small countries half way around the world with $5 billion annual military budgets represent a threat to Washington, which spends roughly $800 billion a year for war. That’s more, by the way, than the $780 billion all 50 state governments combined collected in 2008 to run the country. In his book, “House of War(Houghton Mifflin), James Carroll points out the Pentagon "exceeding agency and intention, has mutated into the great white whale of anarchy and destruction."
These wars are what we all should be protesting, not President Obamas policies on healthcare, we are fools!!

It is a shame. We can approve money to blow up people in other countries but cannot approve money to help unemployed Americans.

Fuck all of them!

Jerry I don't understand it at all....

Your post title is correct Sue.

None of this has made any sense from the beginning. I can see initially where the dims would go along but year after year with so many calling them out and our economy in shambles they still ride the pony of death as fast as they can.

I swear there is more going on than meets the eye and most who make the votes on funding for war got the "or else" card played on them by a cabal of the most wealthy, powerful and evil in the world that call the shots here and other places as well.

I sure as hell don't have the answers but nothing is changing except for the worse and that there is more truth on sites like ours than there is in the rest of the media.

I did not see going along with invading Iraq at all. Dems (like Mrs. Clinton) claim they were told by the Bush White House that they had no intention of invading Iraq, they just wanted the choice of all options.
Then, of course, they invaded Iraq after lying to the American people and the World about WMD'S.
Fear tactics!
OK, so we go to war, but the incompetent Republicans cannot even take a country in 8 years when America took the World in 4 years during WW II.
Of course, all along we ignored Afghanistan and surprise, we are still there.
Now Mr. Steele calls it Obama's war of choice. BULLSHIT!
How many times will Americans allow the Republicans to lie to them, and still believe their crap?

After reading "The Kite Flyer," Frodo was reminded of the mindless ideologues who destroyed the giant statues constructed a thousand years ago by Buddhists. His mind went back to the stonings, and the beheadings, of fellow human beings, who suffered because of this homophobic theocracy which dominates so much of Middle Earth. These are disgusting, scumsucking, ignorami who know almost as much as the clods who insisted that the Earth was the Center of the Universe (see Copernicus). Life would be so much better if they did not exist.

However, the question begs itself, why is Frodo involved? Unless there is a direct opportunity to kill or capture one who has committed great crimes against the people of Middle Earth, then the justification for military action becomes specious, at best.

Truthiness be known, it will be a brighter day when Frodo comes marching home again, Hurrah!

Fly and Tom,there is more going on then meets the eye, it's deep, dark, and sinister I'm sure of it. It's time for us to call ourselves what we truly are, this whole nonsense of nation building is a smokescreen. But look what happened in Vietnam, and we expect more out of our government in the Iraq/Afghanistan wars? Why? No outrage from us will change their minds, it's full steam ahead!

March on Frodo!

I'm one who will not sit back and say we are the greatest nation on earth while we are still murdering innocents and invading countries. It's time to stop being the bully and become the peacemaker! And no, conservative lovers of the military, it's not being a passive pussy to be a peacemaker!

It's looking more and more like Barack Obama has sadly gotten us sucked into a war of attrition deeper and deeper. Bin Laden isn't there (remember him?) and it's simply about pacification, and not even the military can define just what is victory in Afghanistan.

Plus we have a more important war in this hemisphere...that is, to save the American Gulf Coast and it's way of life before it becomes this decade's version of The Great Dust Bowl.

However, if you really want to get some Americans back to work and end the wars in the Middle East in one felt swoop....without raising taxes (God forbid we "pay as you go" regarding warfare)....here's my simple plan.

Bring back the military draft.

You'll get some unemployed off the streets, and in the service of God and country; and the anti-draft protests will be so great and so politically ruinous we'll be out of the Middle East in two years, tops.

This is just like the Sixties all over again, with better toys and shittier music.

Jerry Critter said...

You are right, Hugh, about the draft. Endless wars would never be allowed if we had a draft. They learned that lesson in the 60's.

I just got this...

Biden arrives in Baghdad to reaffirm U.S. long-term commitment to Iraq, White House says.

You are exactly right about the draft, bring it back! One of the talk shows was saying the same thing this week, if GOP'ers had their kids blown up in one of these senseless wars we wouldn't have endless wars.

Sue said...

President Obama is now relying on Republicans to provide unquestioning support for his war, while most Democrats want to see an exit strategy developed.

Significantly, 100 members of the House (93 Democrats, 7 Republicans) voted for an amendment offered by California Congresswoman Barbara Lee, the chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, which proposed to fully fund a withdrawal plan.

Twenty-five members (22 Democrats and three Republicans) cast the boldest anti-war votes, backing an amendment to strike Afghanistan funding from the supplemental bill. Another 22 members (all Democrats) voted "present," suggesting their sympathy with the proposal.

What does it all add up to? Congress has not checked or balanced the president, and that is disappointing—although opportunities still exist to do so, as the supplemental spending bill now must go back to the Senate for another vote.

What should be understood, however, is that the president's own party is losing patience with his misguided war strategies.

I'm with you starting up the draft again. The Pentagon ended the draft to silence the anti-war voices. Although, no draft should not silence the anti-war voices!

I have a comment, but Jerry beat me to it.

That $330 million foe each AQ fighter in the country.

Why not just give them $30 million each and send then to the Riviera to live in luxury? ;-)

Lisa G. said...

I'm all for the draft if the Senator's and Rep's kids or grandkids are the first in line. And no more 'deferments' aka Cheney, except for college students and the disabled. The draft should be based on who has the most money and start from there. I guarantee you, those troops would be home in a nanosecond.

Also, we can find $30B for the war, but not $30B for the unemployed? Something is seriously fucked up about that.

I like those ideas TC and Lisa, thanks for the great links too Lisa. Here's my thinking...The republicans want to stifle job growth and keep growing the class of poor people so they have a steady supply of recruits. How else can they continue their endless wars. Those poor people who have to enlist just to make a living!

"America today is a warfare state, the most powerful ever, and its leaders lie when they claim that small countries half way around the world with $5 billion annual military budgets represent a threat to Washington,"

One such small country put a big whole in the side of one of Washignton's important buildings back about 9 years ago (and brave airline passengers stopped another such attack), so yes such threats to Washington are quite conceivable.

dmarks said...

"President Obama is now relying on Republicans to provide unquestioning support for his war, while most Democrats want to see an exit strategy developed."

Sue, the only exit strategy that makes sense is to defeat the remaining terrorists. Anything short of this is bad policy.

Sue said...

dmarks I appreciate your comment but it's unreasonable to stay in Iraq and Afghanistan when the terrorists are spread throughout the world. It's more then just terrorism we are staying in the region for and the American people are being taken for fools.

The Prophet Dervish Z Sanders said...

Yes, I find this appalling. More money we do not have, and the Republicans are completely behind THIS spending. You can read my further thoughts on the subject here: GOP Propaganda Campaign Turns Failed Petraeus Iraq Surge Into Success.

Tom said... Dems (like Mrs. Clinton) claim they were told by the Bush White House that they had no intention of invading Iraq, they just wanted the choice of all options.

That is precisely what happened. Hillary Clinton, in explaining her vote said, "It was not a vote for war. What I was told directly by the White House in response to my question, 'If you are given this authority, will you put the inspectors in and permit them to finish their job', I was told that's exactly what we intended to do".

BTW, did you hear that Michael Steele Says Afghanistan Was "War Of Obama's Choosing", Not Something The U.S. "Wanted To Engage In". ?

I guess he got his signals crossed regarding what lie the GOP was going with on that particular day. Did he forget that the "war on terror" is the Right's thing? What a dope! He has got to be the most inept Chairman the party has ever had (certainly he'd make the top 10).
