Weiner is one smart dude. I think he's speaking in the same vogue as Annette, Tom and several other bloggers I've read - Oliver Willis, for one.
Funny, but early on, while Weiner was commenting and arguing for the passage of the bill, I was thinking back to the efforts of the Clintons to get their HC bill passed. So, when that commentator (sorry, don't have cable, so I'm not familiar with anyone but Fox), I was glad to hear him remind us of what happened back them. People were just as riled up as they are now and we ended up with a big fat zero.
In another way, it reminded me of the campaign. When Hillary lost the nomination, her supporters were threatening to jump ship and vote for McCain. Fortunately, they had second thoughts and perhaps realized that voting for someone simply because of their sex or color really wasn't too bright.
Leslie that is Lawrence O'Donnell and everyone would do well to listen to what he says.. He knows the Senate inside and out and he was very involved with the process of trying to get Health Care done during the Clinton years. As you see, it didn't happen.. So he knows of which he speaks.. as he tried to point out.. the expansion of Medicaid is not something the states are going to support.. most states are broke now.. how can they afford to add more to their roles.. they have raised the income level now to where it is nearly impossible for you to get on it.
Yes, Weiner may be smart, but his scope is limited. Sorry, but it is true. As Lawrence points out to him.. there is no way, that will work and Ben Nelson knows it and is counting on it.
Besides, where was he 8 months ago.. why wasn't he speaking out then? It's just been in the last few months that he has popped onto the scene... and as for the President.. I think he has always stated the same thing.. He is FOR the Public Option, BUT, it is only a PART of Health Care Reform, not the entire thing.. People have a tendency to forget that.
what part of the bill will force insurance companies to lower their costs if there is no PO then Annette. How will that be real reform? They aren't going to do it out of the goodness of their hearts.
I saw that too, Sue, and thought he was right on. Obama made it big mistake when he left shepherding the Senate Bill in the hands of the Nevada Leg Hound, Harry Reid. Obama should have drawn a line in the sand.
He is right on Tom! Weiner has been working hard for us through the whole debate. Annette asks where was he 8 months ago, I believe he was working along with Schumer, Rockefeller, Sanders, etc. etc.
Weiner said it himself.. did you listen to the clip.. he stated when Norah asked him what was going to make it cheaper that getting people off the welfare rolls and insuring them would bring down the costs... listen to the clip again.. That's what will bring down the cost.. As I said.. the PO was only a very small part of the entire bill... as the REthugs like to point out.. which I think is about the stupidest thing out there.. it is 2,000 + pages and the PO is only mentioned on maybe 1 page...
Everyone got so focused on it, because they felt they were sold out because we couldn't get single payer they forgot there is so much more involved... If we get the same plan as the Federal Employees have, we will have bargaining power with the insurance companies, the EXCHANGE... it is more or less the same as the PO.. and not only that.. Howard Dean is saying Kill the Bill.. This plan they are talking about.. is HIS PLAN.. from 2004 when he ran for President.. and he didn't have a PO in his plan either.
Educate.. as Leslie has done read more places and do more than watch the cable TeeVeee talk shows.. I am telling you.. they are only trying to get their ratings up.. not tell you the truth most of the time.
Please.. I swear, they aren't telling you everything you need to know.

Clinton said he would veto any bill that didn't have Universal Health Care in it.. well they didn't even get anything started in either House or Senate.. at least Pres. Obama has gotten something done..
As for him not doing anything.. is that why he has met with the Senate Democrats at the White House for 3 hours the other night, and the House Democrats for 3 hours the next night.. spent untold hours on the phone with them, went to Capitol Hill how many times.. just the other day on a Saturday and met with both Dems and Reps.. Yet he hasn't done anything.. did you all sleep through all that.. But he still hasn't done enough for you...
You know he can't come into office and snap his fingers and change Washington.. it takes time and it takes help. From us, from Congress.. YEAH RIGHT.. and from everyone.. We have to elect people as Senators and Representatives who will help him clean up DC.. we have to insist our Congress People will do the jobs we send them there to do.. instead they do what they want and we sit here frustrated.
Sorry, I just get very upset at this it is all the President's fault nonsense.
I think 'the'Senator Obama didn't want to be the kind of President Obama that relentlessly wrestles for control of
the senate. Pres Obama respects the senate chamber too much and believes the senate leadership will do their job. Remember, Obama was handed the electorial votes from Reid's Nevada...perhaps a little quid pro quo going on???

Then we put the numbers under the nose of Joe Lieberman and publicly demand that he apply his "reasoning" to what these numbers show.
Then we give Ben Nelson the "OK" to write whatever he wants into any version with the understanding that any such addition would apply only to the geographical limits of nebraska.
