Wanna talk about Dick??

Dick Cheney: HUMAN EVENTS' Conservative of the Year !!!!!?

Cheney’s quiet, inner-directed motivation is simply impervious to the attacks orchestrated against him by the Chicago machine-style politicians at the White House, a fact also plainly visible to his fellow citizens. And it is yet another important reason to have confidence that Cheney’s solid policy analysis will yet prevail in the national political arena. Of course he is the conservative of the year!

Are ya upset with me for not leaving a linky to the whole article by John Bolten?? Sorry I just couldn't bring myself to read all about this prestigious award bestowed upon the Dickster,

DNC Press Secretary Hari Sevugan scoffs, "What does it say about the current crop of Republican leaders that the 'Conservative of the Year' is the face of a previous administration who regularly scored approval ratings in the 20s? No new ideas, no new direction, no new leaders -- your GOP giving new meaning to 'The Party of No' every day."

The Dickster is "Conservative of the Year". One of the most hated men in the country (possibly the world). Congrats Dick.....

I believe it Oso. He is pure evil and his daughter is following in his footsteps. What a family! lol

But I can remember that when Bush and Cheney were first elected they felt Cheney was the smartest of the two. This didn't really change in time - it was more like a tie. Plus Cheney was such and evil dog, whereas Bush was simply dumb.

Sue said...

Leslie I remember people being so afraid of Bush and his inability to lead so therefore feeling "safe" with Cheney! Can you believe that!! It was an amazing 8 years and I'm amazed we're still here!

RE; " national political arena". Our politicians and our [system] has no influence in Den Haag. Sooner or later it will come to that. He and the other conspirators need to be frog marched to the docket in the Hague. America will not hold their own criminals accountable, if they be Dem or Rethug. So the International community must do so. I doubt Cheney and his Boyz with toyz will be traveling much to Europe in the near future.

Thanks for asking. My daughter got married on Saturday. Very hectic, and quite insane. Everything went perfect. I cried a lot though. The FATHER-DAUGHTER DANCE WAS TOO MUCH FOR ME. LOL. Dick Cheney, conservative of the year. It just shows you what disarray the conservative movement and the republican party is in. Wow! Their top guy has an approval rating in the 20's. Not going to win many elections with those numbers.

Why can't you people let go? Bush and Cheney are out of power. Get over it already. I don't worry about Bill Clinton anymore, so just get over it already.

R.Zone,
By the way, NO ONE divided up any Iraqi oil fields. We are not taking any oil, nor have we since the conflict started. Why don't you at least TRY to be honest in your accusations. Prove ANY of your statements, and by someone other than a left wing blogger. That seems to be the source of choice with libs.

The Wool Cupboard said...

Sue ~ The truly amazing thing will be that the US manages to survive the current administration with our Constitution intact. The government is being so enlarged by Obama, that we are going to be just like Venezuela before long with the government taking over news outlets and tv stations. If we have no free press, we have nothing. We can only hope that the discontent of the American people with what is being foisted upon them will be enough to stop this socialistic power grab.

The Wool Cupboard said...

Leslie P ~ Yeah, because Media Matters in so non-biased in their "reporting." (snicker)

If you bothered to watch Glenn Beck, which unfortunately, I don't get to do very often, you would find that he verifies his sources of information to the inth degree. His books have page after page of source information for his statements. He does not just throw his opinion out there and show no factual support of his statements.

The Wool Cupboard said...

Susana ~ What a ridiculous list of bunk. PROVE anything you listed to be the truth...again without using left wing bloggers as support for your accusations. Let's see some actual, FACTUAL proof. It is easy to accuse when you offer no verification for your statements, isn't it?

R. Zone ~ A little investigating into Michel Chossudovsky reveals him to be a far leftist economist who has adopted an unusual viewpoint....The following is a quote from a bio...

"Mr. Chossudovsky's research has turned his attention to terrorism. He has written articles accusing the U.S. of plotting to conquer the world with Britain and Israel, and suggesting Osama bin Laden is a CIA asset.

A forthcoming book entitled America's "War on Terrorism" In the Wake of 9/11 is described on globalresearch.ca as an expose that "blows away the smokescreen, put up by the mainstream media, that 9/11 was an 'intelligence failure.' "

But even sympathetic colleagues familiar with his work admit they are uncomfortable with many of his ideas.

"Among people who work on terrorism, there certainly is not much that resembles his work," said Michael Dartnell, a political scientist at York University. "The thing that disturbs me about what he's doing is there is a conspiratorial element to it. And I can't prove or disprove it."

The more I read about his views and his work, the less inclined I am to accept his "opinion" as fact.

His whole focus is on "leveling the playing field" as he has said over and over again. He seems to be against everything that makes capitalism work. He doesn't seem to want anyone to excel or to make a profit, except possibly the government. His taking over banks and lending institutions should have raised all kinds of alarms, but the libs act as if that is the way things should be done.

I have no idea who is the author of your quote...it is either misquoted or incomplete, because I could not find it anywhere.

By the way, here is another quote for you....

"He seems to be against everything that makes capitalism work."

Lets not forget that Bush and the Republicans destroyed Capitalism.

The normal buy/sell process was stopped. Capitalists stopped investing (loaning out) money. Our debt (built by Republicans) kills motivation for investing. The low value of the American dollar (caused by Republican Voodoo Economics) drives what little investment money there is, overseas.

They HAD to be bailed out according to Bush and Obama. I'm not convinced.

Now, that banks and Wall St. are doing fine and posting profits, they are still not spreading that to the American economy.

They still hold a credit freeze over the country. Capitalism does not work, if capitalists don't invest and help grow the economy.

We saved them, they won't help save us.

Until, of course, recession sets in and interest rates are high enough for them to take a gamble, or should I say take the rest of the spending power out of the peoples pockets.

Linda,
Thanks for your incisive comments regarding Lewis Black's Cheney joke. I'm surprised you took it as a serious statement.

People gear speeches to their audience.Politicians,CEO's, athletes. They say things which sound good for applause and media coverage. I assume that's where you get the "redistribute the wealth" line.

What you are not seeing is Obama's ACTIONS.Look at the way Aetna/UHC/HC stocks shot up.The HCR bill is geared towards the health insurance industry and puts even more $ into their coffers.

Look at his financial reform package. It's filled with loopholes and does nothing to address derivatives and moral hazard.A completely Wall St friendly piece of work.

There's nothing socialist about the man, there's nothing even liberal about him. He epitomizes the DLC triangulation begun under Clinton.

Do you understand the term socialism? essentially govt control of capital/good/services.
Do you see that occurring ?

No you don't cause it isn't happening. Wall St is telling govt what to do, not the other way around. Do you see any of the big financial houses being ran by govt?

The same mgmt still sits in all the TBTF's. They still trade and speculate with our taxpayer $. All the TARP equity swaps were for preferred stock.non-voting.

Look at his deeds, not his words.

The Wool Cupboard said...

Oso ~ Barack Obama in an interview with the Chicago Public Radio in 2001.

"If you look at the victories and failures of the civil rights movement and its litigation strategy in the court. I think where it succeeded was to invest formal rights in previously dispossessed people, so that now I would have the right to vote. I would now be able to sit at the lunch counter and order as long as I could pay for it I’d be o.k. But, the Supreme Court never ventured into the issues of redistribution of wealth, and of more basic issues such as political and economic justice in society. To that extent, as radical as I think people try to characterize the Warren Court, it wasn’t that radical. It didn’t break free from the essential constraints that were placed by the founding fathers in the Constitution, at least as its been interpreted and Warren Court interpreted in the same way, that generally the Constitution is a charter of negative liberties. Says what the states can’t do to you. Says what the Federal government can’t do to you, but doesn’t say what the Federal government or State government must do on your behalf, and that hasn’t shifted and one of the, I think, tragedies of the civil rights movement was, um, because the civil rights movement became so court focused I think there was a tendancy to lose track of the political and community organizing and activities on the ground that are able to put together the actual coalition of powers through which you bring about redistributive change. In some ways we still suffer from that."

There was also the campaign answer to Joe "the Plumber" ~ "I think when you spread the wealth around, it's good for everybody.” – Barack Obama (October 2008)

When our government "bailed out"
banks, lending institutions, financial institutions, automobile manufacturers, etc. the administration proceeded to replace CEOs and to tell these institutions how much they should give employees in bonuses, tried to regulate salaries, etc. I call that taking over. His words are socialistic. I think when someone makes remarks that indicate he agrees with the socialists, then that is the type of governing he will attempt to do.

You are right that he has not come down hard on Wall Street as most libs wanted him to do. Why? I do know that it is NOT because he is not a liberal. He is liberal through and through, but I think he has decided to pick some battles he thinks he can win and let others go for now.

The Wool Cupboard said...

Jerry C. ~ Royal Dutch Shell is a multinational company of Dutch and British origin. Also, Iraq is auctioning its oil fields for their own prosperity. We are not taking their oil.

Oso said...

Linda,
Thanks for the response.

IMO,the two quotes reinforce my point.People say things to generate voter and audience approval. I haven't listened to a lot of his speeches but from what I see both libs and cons tend to read a lot into his words.Libs in particular tend to see a kindred spirit in him.

I see cons like yourself (IMO) who also read more into his words than is really there.

I personally did not approve of the Bush administration and in my view Obama's actions (not his words)reflect a continuation of Bush policies.

I beg to differ with your comment on the bailouts-to my knowledge the only CEO replaced was Wagner at GM,I don't know the circumstances.

Yes, the banks were told they had to keep down officer bonuses-do you really think institutions coming with their hat in hand begging for taxpayer $ should use a portion of that $ to pay themselves bonuses for bankrupting said companies ?

Which is the reason for early payoff of TARP funds-so restrictions on bonuses would no longer apply.

You'd indicated agreement with me that Obama didn't come down hard on Wall St as most libs wanted.Would you not agree that a lot of rank and file Reps also wanted someone to come down hard on Wall St. too? There was a lot of populist hostility towards the bailout and if memory serves in spite of Bush/McCain as well as Obama supporting it there was even more Reps in opposition than Dems?

Infidel753 said...

Linda: I'll bet your righteousness indignation over Lieberman didn't kick in again when Harry Reid bribed Mary Landrieu and Ben Nelson and others, did it?

Actually, I didn't like that either, but you're dodging the point. You claimed that the government has taken over health care. If that were the case, the health insurance companies would not be free to act so effectively against the goals of the dominant party.

The Wool Cupboard said...

Oso ~ In my opinion, the CEOs should have not been bailed out in the first place. If they had been allowed to reorganize through the bankruptcy process, then everything would have straightened itself out. They would have survived but would have been forced to be frugal and more fiscally responsible on their own. There may have been a few republicans in favor of the bailouts, but I am not aware of them. I seem to recall most of them being dead set against bailing out anyone. It was all made to seem as if the country would fall apart at the seams if nothing were done. I'm not so sure that would have been the case. Just my opinion, of course.

I think it is only natural for libs to want to believe every word that comes out of the mouth of the President. It may be that conservatives naturally distrust a liberal President, but I do think that a lot of Americans wanted to think the best of President Obama and wanted him to bring his promised "change" to Washington. The conservatives who bothered to research what he had done in the past as a senator in Illinois knew that he would be very liberal. He also associated with extreme liberals like Rahm Emanuel and Valerie Jarrett. I still feel that he is choosing his battles carefully right now in order to get as much of his liberal agenda into play as possible. He wants people to get over their anger and forget about his policies before the next election, (in my opinion.)

The Wool Cupboard said...

Infidel ~ What I said was that when the health care bill is passed into law, that would result in government taking over health care. That is why conservatives wanted to stop the bill BEFORE it becomes law. The insurance companies are at liberty right now to work against these policies, but there will come a day when their influence may be curtailed by government control. What I think is best is for the free market to be allowed to work. Especially with a public option, that would not be allowed to happen.

Tao Dao Man said...

The Republicans that were against the bail out did it for political posturing. The main Republican that was for it was George W Bush.

Linda,
regarding your thoughts on the bailout and letting it sort itself out thru the bankruptcy process,I'm in full agreement. The FDIC under Sheila Bair uses this approach with depository institutions and it works well.

As you pointed out ("made to seem as if the country would fall apart at the seams if nothing were done") Bernanke needlessly attempted to panic congress by claiming short-term lending was about to collapse without mentioning the FED had the capability to backstop the Money Markets.

You may be right about his agenda, I don't see it but all that means is we interpret data differently.

R. Zone ~ You honestly don't think that any of the republicans rejected the bailouts on purely philosophical objections? My objections were not political in nature. I do not believe that the Constitution allows for the government to interfere in private business other than necessary oversight to insure the safety of the public.

George Bush was wrong in my opinion, in his support for the bailouts. I believe he was convinced that dire consequences would result from inaction. Bernanke must have done a great sales job. There are, however, economists who still believe that the TARP program was what saved us from another great depression. I don't know if that is true. I tend to believe that the crisis was oversold.

Linda; No i am sure some did, as did some Dems. imo; We will never know the truth of how bad it was, or might have been. Helicopter Ben will still not divulge where that 2.3 trillion $ went. I agree there are two schools of thought on this. ONE, Let them collapse. Two, the stimulus should have been much, much more, and quicker. Paulson kept threatening global financial collapse, they needed this money at this instant. The system is broken. Goldman Sachs and the rest along with the illegal Fed, run and own this country. Geithner sat next to Paulson as this was going down, then he becomes sec. of thievery. Summers helped orchestrate this fiasco ten years ago. Greenspan is the most complicit of them all. Greed, and more greed. The market will regulate itsself. lol -----ever read Catherine Fitts?
