Who Failed In Copenhagen Again???

It needs to be said that I really didn't and don't give a shit as to where the Olympics are held at any given time, seriously. Did I care that Chicago lost? Nope. Was I surprised? Nope.In fact I would have been shocked if they DID get to be the site of the 2016 games. So, how did I come to this conclusion?

Take the sites of the previous Olympic Games since say...1980. Let's get a count as to how many times they were in the U.S. and then elsewhere.

The U.S. - 4 (1980, 1984, 1996, 2002) If you count Canada for some reason, add 2
Europe - 5 (1984, 1992, 1992-again, 1994, 2004)
The Southern Hemisphere as a whole - 1 (2000)

So, just that alone guaranteed Rio as the site for the 2016 games. If not, they would have gotten screwed.

Of course, there is an outstanding argument for past sites being screwed due to a sort of shenanigans by the Olympic committee from years past. Take Salt Lake City for example, it seems that the United States Olympic Committee had allegations of bribery in making Salt Lake City the site of the 2002 games. That wasn't long ago and I have a feeling that the Olympic Committee has a LONG memory of this. So much so to the point that I would guess that the U.S. won't see an Olympics event til at least 2028 at the earliest. I will be shocked if we do get it before then.

So was this a decision of goodwill to South America? You bet your ass. Anyway this could have been political? Wouldn't doubt it.

So, who really failed in Copenhagen again? Did Obama let the U.S. down? To all you retards that want to say "yes" the answer is actually "NO". If you simply MUST have someone to blame, try those involved on the Olympic Committee that still remember 2002. For some reason, there's a certain retard element that wants to blame the President for the failure.

Really? You want our President to fail? Sounds like you got the inside track on a plan B for how you're going to be able to cope with the ramifications if that comes to fruition. Leaving the country perhaps? Even when G.W. was President, I didn't WANT him to fail, that's just a stupid FUCKING IDIOTIC statement. Besides, he was destined to fail as he did in business time and time again including running an oil company into the ground(now how the fuck do you do that???). But, that's what most of you get when you elect someone based on who you'd just like to have a beer with.

I digress as this ain't about ghosts of idiots past. The point I wanted to make is that a lot of you stupid pricks need to get you head out of the sand or your ass and stop making statements like, "I hope Barack Obama fails". We had 8 years of failure, to get just 4 more alone would be catastrophic. So, if you can't contribute something positive to the task at hand, do us a favor and shut the fuck up!

Yes, you have the right to speak your mind and are free to say what you want. Just remember that as time goes on, you had a chance at actually doing something POSITIVE at a time that's not so positive, you made the decision to be a cheerleader for ruin. You're not just cheering on a President to fail, your cheering on the demise of this country. I believe that qualifies as treason(To those in the Palin's Alaskan Independence Party, we already thought of you as traitors...carry on).

ONE MORE TIME...Rush Limbaugh wants Obama's far leftist POLICIES to fail. Why can't you separate the two concepts?

No one wants the United States to fail, that is just an ignorant statement. Why would someone who lives in the US want it to fail? Oh, wait, SOCIALISTS want American government failure so that they can adopt their agenda. Capitalism IS after all the bad boy on the block in their little minds. Rush Limbaugh has said repeatedly (I've actually heard him) that he wants Obama's liberal policies to fail because they are bad for America. I believe he is still entitled to his opinion.

I have no doubts that you heard(and probably still do) limbaugh. Your memory sure is convenient. Perhaps you should be limbaugh's sentence structure advisor.

Look, I know the world is changing at apace you're clearly not comfortable with. Too bad, DEAL. This bullshit argument and fear using the socialist card is old and played out. It should be beneath someone with common sense.

Get a new argument.

I want Obama to fail at everything he is currently attempting to do.
I want my country to succeed at surviving this administration.

We are falling apart at the seams while he throws money around that solves NOTHING.

Doctor Nobody,

Obama will not fail at everything is currently attempting to do. (????) Hypothetically speaking: If he does fail, YOUR (I thought is was OUR'S) Country will surely fail right along with YOUR/OUR President!

Real smart!

You state that Bush was "destined to fail" yet you yourself say the same thing about Obama's bid for Chicago: "So, just that alone guaranteed Rio as the site for the 2016 games." You make a strong case for Obama not going to make the bid, particularly as this was the first time a US President has done that. Obama originally said that he wasn't going to go because healthcare reform and other matters were more important. Obama should have stuck to that, particularly since you say the Rio results were already pre-ordained.

The CDM said...

Okay Dave, let's fill in the gap for you here.

Let's say YOU are President. Now, it's been announced that the site of the next Olympics is about to hit your home town. Don't tell me for one second you wouldn't at least try to make a case for the hometown crowd and do so in person. Trust me, if G.W. heard that the summer games were going to hit Crawford, he would have done more than make a weak ass endorsement like he did for New York(clearly not his back yard).

On from there, do I think he should have gone there? No...but I understand. Now, do you?

The human conscience is a truly telling wonder. I'm sure there are a lot of liberals here that know where I'm going with this.

Woo Hoo!!! Well said C, well said!! Even if the neocons say they just want the POLICIES to fail, well that means the country goes to hell in a handbasket!!

DAMMIT SUE!!! I was saving that for later...along with what a little somethin' somethin' mentioned somewhere in this assortment of comments. That's all I'm sayin' for now.

The problem was Mitt Romney and the guess what... the MORMONS.. they cheated, lied and got caught.. that's why we are still being punished by the IOC..

Yes, we got awarded the SLC Olympic games, but as you pointed out, they will be the last for a long time.. and look what it did to and for Mittens.. he likes to think it is a good thing.. but to me it is a black mark on him.. and people need to start talking about it.. instead of hailing it as a credit..

Sue said...

thanks Annette!!! Told ya Mormons are, well shall we say, wrong on just about every front. There, I was trying to stay somewhat civil.

Annette ~ Your ignorance is showing! For your information, the Utah organizers of the Olympics were the inept/corrupt people who ran up the huge cost overruns, etc. Mitt Romney was the person who came in, took over and SAVED the Olympics for Utah. Do a little research and save yourself some embarrassment!

CDM ~ What makes you soooooo positive that the success of Obama's agenda and the success of America are one in the same? That is only your opinion. More than half of the people in the United States feel that Obama is taking us in the wrong direction with his spending, borrowing, printing of money, fraternizing with dictators and communists, apologizing all over the world for the American people, taking over PRIVATELY OWNED businesses and corporations, telling us what we can pay employees, and at what temp we may set our thermostats on while he basks in an 80 degree heated oval office, flies for a 30 minute meeting with the Olympic committee to Copenhagen with Miss Michelle taking a huge separate jet for the same 30 minute meeting, etc. These people are destroying our economy, you DEAL WITH IT!!!

Your blind belief that Obama is all that is good in the world and the chosen savior of the world is the truly frightening thing. Obama is the king of hypocrisy.

The CDM said...

Linda, Everything you just wrote there was an opinion, everything. That includes your poll numbers. Show me that poll and I'll show you one that contradicts it. I don't believe in polls unless they have a comedic factor, bottom line is that I don't believe in polls. Do you believe in every poll that's out there? Soon as a poll comes out that doesn't agree with your philosohy, you find ways to discredit it. Polls??? Please, get a new argument.

You also seem to be under the assumption that I believe that Obama is "the chosen savior of the world". Saying something like that is benneath you, really. Show where I said that. I'll even do you one better. Do I think he is "the chosen savior of the world"? No. He sure is hell is worlds better than the alternative that we had to choose from and I support him. Even that crackpot beck said Mad Jack would have been worse. Like I care what he thinks, I still find that amusing.

The man hasn't been in office a full year and you're already wanting to throw him under the bus. At least I waited to see G.W. in action(or lack thereof) for a year before I started nit-picking.

Here's the REAL bottom line: I get it, you didn't vote for him. Let the man work.

By the way, if his office is set to 80 degrees at any given time of the year, I sure as hell ain't visiting him. I know seniors freeze all the damn time, but damn, 80 degrees???

Can you hear Lindas disgust for Mr and Mrs Obama?? Its truely pitiful! She hasn't a clue what kind of people they really are but makes assumptions about them personally. She keeps talking about the thermostat thing too, I guess she was there one day and looked at it?? Not one single thing you say Linda comes from your own brain, its what the leaders of the neocons are telling you!
Who really destroys the US economy Linda?? REPUBLICANS thats who, deal with that honey!!

Great minds, CDM. Same subject on mine this morning. Not Obama's fault at all. At least he had the courage to try in the face of near impossible odds against him.

And, had he not made the attempt, these same idiot Republicans would be saying we lost the Olympics because Obama hated America too much to go after them.

Sue said...

well said Tom, they woulda been all over him calling him a loser if he didn't try!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2002_Winter_Olympic_bid_scandal

read all about the scandal.

and for all you Mormons who laugh at Obama, Salt Lake precious fuckin city of yours lost bids for the games in 1932, 1972, 1976, 1992, til finally winning by bribery!

themom said...

Personally, I think the IOC has their own agenda. It takes into account world situations and yes...they can be bribed. Economically, I'm not sure that this would have been a boost to Chicago's economy - and they may have just dodged the bullet.

I do not believe that Obama won or lost this bid. It is only convenient for a few fucking groups to have something to lambast. Hearing Beck cheer was so ironic...since it was HIS church that bribed the committee so many years ago.

All true...except the bit about the inept/corrupt "peeps" they were inept and corrupt but they were also a close knit group of very wealthy GOP politicians with huge special interests and insider washington (bush-age era) ties. Look what he's done as Gov of Mass... you'd think it would make the cons and repuppies blush purple.

Were you critical of the Bush administration?

I have just finished listening to Douglas Brinkley’s “The Great Deluge: Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans and the Mississippi Gulf Coast.”

I pray there will never be another paradigm of ineptitude in our nation to compare with that of the administration of George W. Bush.

Brinkey, professor of history at Tulane University in NOLA, is a best-selling historian. Read his book and be ready for an awakening – a real Pepto-Bismol moment.

Do Republicans go in and have their memories erased every year or so?

I just love how many of the conservatives joined in on this so quickly. Yes, the human conscience is truly a telling wonder.

The Wool Cupboard said...

BJ ~ Yes, as a matter of fact, I have been critical of the Bush administration and the first Bush administration, as well as believe it or not, the Reagan administration. The first George HW Bush promised something he couldn't follow through on and caused a lot of grief for conservatives. GW Bush spent too much money and was not concerned enough with what the American people thought about his administration. He was a terrible communicator. I do not blame him for the Katrina catastrophe. That blame falls squarely upon the governor of LA and the mayor of NO, and the stupidity of the people who ignored MANY warnings to get out of town and then expected everything to be back to normal the next day. If those idiots hadn't stayed in town, there wouldn't have been the necessity of such a massive rescue. Bush also was way too soft on the matter of border problems. He should have closed the border...period.
Ronald Reagan presided over a large amnesty program for a few million illegals which is a bad, bad idea. We have laws, and people who break them need to lose privileges and be sent packing to come back the legal way if they want citizenship.

I have a pretty good memory, even for conservative failures.

Sue ~ How do you know that I'm not giving my own opinion but that of some radio or tv personality. Why can democrats agree with every other democrat talking head, and that's just PROOF that what they are saying is true. When I happen to agree with something that some other conservative may have said, that means that I can't think for myself??? Your slanted prejudice is shouting loud and clear, Sue.

This statement makes me mad as hell. It proves you don’t have a clue about what went on in the entire area affected by Katrina. And, I bet you wouldn’t bother to read Brinkley’s book if your life depended on it. There is plenty of evidence to prove “idiots” like you wrong, but you are not going to expose yourself to it. You’d rather believe your own ridiculous assumptions about what happened than to actually learn the facts of the situation.

To call the victims of that disaster “idiots” is beyond the pale and only shows your own ignorance and prejudice.

You ought to be ashamed. Perhaps one day you’ll read the book and will be.

BJ

CDM – Sorry to get so far off topic, but I had to answer Linda’s statement.

The CDM said...

B.J. - ??? Off-topic? Please. You seen any of my comments lately?(Can't even type that with a straight face.)

Ethnocentrism is an ugly thing, B.J. All you did was spot it. You may go "off-topic" anytime. Bravo.

The Wool Cupboard said...

BJ ~ One book doth not the truth make. I've read lots of news reports about Katrina and have watched lots of reports. As with everything, there are two sides to most stories. I know that there may have been some helpless sick or elderly people who could not help themselves out, and that is where the MAYOR should have been doing his job. The row after row of school buses sitting empty should have been put into service to get the helpless out. They had lots of notice about the hurricane heading their direction, and many people did not take the opportunity to get themselves out when they had the time. They waited around until it was too late and then wailed about why no one was there helping them get out. It was stupidity with a capital "S".

If your family had lived there, I assume that you would have taken every precaution to get them to safety, wouldn't you? I stand by my statements again.

By the way, not everyone affected by Katrina was black, and I am so tired of liberals screaming "racism" every time a conservative disagrees with their idiotic rants. You don't know me and you certainly have no right to label me as racist from my statements here. The white people who stayed were just as idiotic as the black people who stayed. It has nothing to do with the color of their skin, it has everything to do with their rovolting lack of judgement by staying in an obviously very dangerous situation when they could have gotten out. They didn't seem to consider the danger posed to all the rescuers who had to go into that dangerous situation to save their backsides. I know that there were some people who had no means to escape, and they are of course not idiots, but victims of a worthless mayor and governor.

Why do liberals always choose to blame the conservative in every situation? You are wrong here.

B.J. said...

Linda:

I do not normally get into such badinage, because as the old saying goes, “You can’t win an argument with an ignorant person.”

You apparently do not know that Douglas Brinkley’s historical account of Katrina is likely to be the definitive work.

If you were intellectually curious, you would have at least read some reviews of the book. Here’s one from the conservative newspaper The Washington Times:

"Likely to be the account against which other treatments of the subject will be judged."

With documentation and direct quotes, Brinkley holds everyone in the chain of command responsible: Bush, Chertoff, “Brownie,” Gov. Blanco, Mayor Nagin. The entire chain of command was FUBAR, but the fact remains that Bush was at the head of the chain. And, don’t forget, the people of New Orleans re-elected Ray Nagin.

If you want a true measure of George W. Bush’s character and judgment, you will find it in this book. And, I believe that was my original assertion.

No, Linda, I am not wrong here. You continue to show your ignorance of the chronological history of this horrible disaster. And, if you don’t think “racism” played a part in it, you are in total denial.

I don’t expect you to read Brinkley’s book. As I said, why would you?

To answer your question as to why liberals claim racism, it’s because 99 and 44/100 percent of racists in this country are undeniably conservative. Can you refute that?

To continue to call victims “stupid” and “idiotic” is proof enough for me of your own personal prejudices.

And, BTW, not all liberals are “idiotic.” To pass such blanket judgment (crrrect spelling) on a group of persons is the very definition of “prejudice.”

BJ

The Wool Cupboard said...

BJ ~ Congratulations! Your little speech is so typical of libs. You presume to "know" what is in my heart as well as in all conservatives' hearts when it comes to the matter of race. You really don't know, but your hatred of conservatives overtakes your reason and you blurt out numbers pulled from the thin air with regard to the percentage of conservatives you believe to be racist. You have no proof, no real basis for your assumption, and no idea what you are talking about. PROVE your statement to be true. You can't.

I did NOT call everyone in N.O. stupid--only those who stayed when they could have left. Stupid is as stupid does. Are you denying that it was stupid to stay in a city constructed below sea level with a predicted cat 5 hurricane bearing down upon you? Come on! You and everyone with a brain would have seen the danger and gotten out of town. I have much sympathy for the ill and elderly who had no choice and were neglected by those who could have helped them escape. But for those who stayed and were caught on camera hauling televisions, Niki's, and anything else their thieving arms could carry out of stores--I have no sympathy whatsoever. They were able-bodied enough to carry large heavy television sets, so I think they could have found a way to get themselves and their families to safety. They chose to stay and to steal, so they fit well into the category of stupid (and criminal).

I'm sure that if Obama had been in charge, he would have stopped the wall of water before it hit land and saved everyone, but alas, he hadn't yet been elected. Instead, we had poor, illiterate GW Bush (who can't even say nuclear correctly) as our hapless President, so we knew no republican could do anything right...and he proved it, of course. Sigh...if only the country had extended Bill Clinton's run to an unprecedented third term (exept for Roosevelt's, of course), or if we had only stopped the theft of the election from the green Al Gore...there would have been no Katrina...

I suggest that you and your lib friends who see everything as evidence of racial prejudice are the real racists here. You inject race into every argument and every disagreement over borders, health care, the war on terror, and even the election of a President who has dubious political and social connections and is destroying our economy. Oh, but I forgot, CDM accused me of not being able to handle change and that my irrational fear of socialism is corrupting my ability to accept the leftist agenda of our beloved new young charismatic and obviously intellectually superior President. So, I guess you can just enjoy your Obama utopia in bliss, knowing that all the evil republicans will just have to accept the changes and DEAL with it..... FOOLS! If it weren't so serious, it would be funny to see your faces the day you finally realize how duped you were, the day you voted for Barack Obama.

Sue said...

you are wrong about us putting Obama on a pedastal. I for one just choose to wait 4 years to judge his performance, as you all chose to judge after the first week. As I said before, name one policy that has affected you personally. I can tell you the policy that will affect me personally, the healthcare reform. Unfortunatly not soon enough.

B.J. said...

Linda:

I will address your first comment; the rest are just your personal political views.

Now try to follow this: I did not say all conservatives are racists. I said all racists are conservative. Big difference.

As for the 99 and 44/100 percent figure, I suppose it’s a generational thing, but that’s just the slogan for Ivory soap – “Ivory … 99 and 44/100 percent pure.” Generically, it is slang for “almost all.” So, what I said was almost all racists are conservative. Now, read back over this and try to understand.

Now, let’s move on. Shall we?

Actually Linda, I believe I mentioned that THE WORLD(and I was specific to mention that and not just the U.S.) was changing at a rate you(and a lot of conservatives) were clearly not comfortable with, but by all means, don't let it stop you from blowing things out of porportion. I'm getting used to you doing that now.
