Obama IS the smartest man in the room, he knows if all tax cuts go back to Clinton Era rates then in January Congressional Dems will offer up a bill to cut middle class taxes, and what will the GOP do then??  The country KNOWS tax cuts to the top 2% DO NOT GROW THE ECONOMY, so WHY are you still fighting for them?? Please tell us, for I hear over and over the question being asked, but never have I heard a clear answer!

Just today I read that executives are saying to Congress DO NOT cut entitlements so the 2% can keep their tax cuts,  now we have over 65% of the country saying let the tax cuts expire for the top 2%, the rich are saying TAX THEM, Republicans, Independents, and Democrats are saying stop playing games...but it's those unreasonable, obstructionist, incompetent teabaggers in the House that are holding this up, and by doing so will only add to their own demise. That's how stupidly stubborn they are...

And then we have Boehner crying in his beer because he knows if he sides with 65% of the country, and god forbid THE PRESIDENT, then his job is on the line and most likely will lose it to a TEABAGGER! (((Shudder))). But wait, shudder we will NOT, for if this whole scenario comes to fruition it will surely be the end of the tea party as we know it, for you can just imagine what the House would look like and perform like with a Teabagger Speaker.....2014 will be here before you know it.

Because if you believe that America in
the 21st century should function under the same assumptions and with the same values as America in the 18th century- then no, this actually isn't your America any more.
If you believe that "Freedom of religion" means that you have the right to make decisions about health care, family planning, equal rights, evolution and education for people who do not share your religion- you're in the wrong place.

If you believe that black people vote for a black man only because of race but white people never vote for a white guy because of his race... if you believe that a 90 year old veteran who has been voting for 50 years should be denied a ballot because he no longer has a driver's license... then it's not your America any more.

If you believe that bullying and abuse is ok as long as you do it for Jesus, and that kids are better off in orphanages than with gay parents and that rape shouldn't be an 'excuse' for an abortion because some girls rape easy... this is not your America. If you believe that the working poor, pensioners and veterans in America just want 'free stuff' but the wealthy demand their personal income tax cuts for the good of the nation- no, this is not your America.
If you think you have the right to say who other people can love, this isn't that place.

And if you believe that it's not possible for your candidate to lose an election unless the "urban" people cheated...by voting... that an acceptable way to win is to try to stop as many people as possible from voting, that "bipartisan' means that all the wrong people are supposed to do things your way and that the "United" part of "United States of America" only applies when your party is running the show... then you don't understand what America is.

It's not a country where you can just 'opt out' when things don't go your way, and where a bunch of people whining that they want to leave will make us turn our backs on our principles. It's not a place where beginning a sentence with "I'm not a racist' makes it ok to call the President a ni**er. It's not a country where a rich, privileged old man can attack a young woman's character in vicious and almost pornographic simply because he disagrees with her politics and not suffer consequences. It's not a place where we believe that a helping hand in the middle of a natural disaster should come with a pricetag..
It's not a nation where we think it's ok for poor people to die from treatable diseases because millionaire CEO's don't want to cut into their profits.
And thankfully, it's not a nation where bitter, obscenely wealthy men can buy themselves an election.

- Republicans lost because their party leadership and most candidates feared you, listened to you, and looked the other way on important issues as you picked the dumbest, craziest nominees in key primaries (Murdock and Akin), or converted otherwise

 sensible, experienced candidates to Crazy Town (Romney).
- There’s nothing wrong with wanting limited government. I do. There’s nothing wrong with believing in God, the Golden Rule, or wanting to reduce abortions. I do, too. But you’ve taken it too damn far and scare the shit out of people you could otherwise persuade.
- Yes, the message and messenger matter (you’re failing at both, BTW), but no Madison Avenue P.R. firm, K Street lobbying firm, Fox News “analyst”, or local chapter of “Freedom Works” can sell the flaming dung you’re slinging.
- Smart people can lose. But smart people always learn.
- You didn’t lose because you “weren’t conservative enough” or because the country has become full of lazy “takers” who don’t want to earn a living or just want America to “turn in to Europe”.
- You didn’t lose because of Hurricane Sandy or because Chris Christie hugged the President on TV – they were both doing their jobs.
- You didn’t lose because of a liberal media, liberal college campuses, liberal polls that were “weighted to Democrats” (mostly because they were accurate), or because of “election fraud”… actually, that probably benefited you this time.
- No. You lost because your policies, tone, conspiracies, rigid inflexibility and irrational rhetoric helped align enough moderates, swing voters, and minority groups whom otherwise could be persuaded by Republicans, to align with Democrats and a beatable incumbent.
- It’s not that you didn’t get your message out, it’s that we all actually heard it and threw up a little in our mouths.
- There isn’t a mandate for Democrats in this election. Liberalism wasn’t rewarded in this election. However, calm pragmatism, compassion, working together, compromise and sincerity were rewarded. People may not have agreed with President Obama, but more felt he was sincere and that he understood their daily problems, fears, and dreams. If you don’t trust what the polls say, take a look at who is sworn in on January 20th. I thought you’d at least believe in Math when it came to counting to 270.
- Sincerity is the only thing in politics you can’t fake. You can’t teach it. No matter how shiny a candidate’s bio is, how smooth he is, or how perfect the gray hairs rest on his temples — any average Joe on the street can spot a bullshitter.
- Mitt is a generous and good man, but he didn’t know who he was or “needed” to be at any given time in that campaign. That’s largely his fault for lacking core convictions or personal toughness (Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush possessed both traits – that’s why they won).
- But you, the right wing base of the party, who drove so many of us moderate republicans out the door years ago, were the main catalyst. Your inability to reason, compromise, or let new facts and evidence challenge your predetermined outcomes led millions of moderates to no longer be able to stand on stage with you.
- Frankly, you’re embarrassing – more so than a crazy family member at dinner, or having your mom drop you off at a high school dance.
- You say stupid shit and look stupid saying it.
- You pass amendments to ban flag burning and then hang it upside down and post it on Facebook when you lose.
- You preach limited government in the economy when Democrats are in charge and then look the other way when you’re in charge.
- You want a government small enough to stay out of corporations and banks but big enough for bedrooms and hospital respirators (see Schiavo, Terri).
- There’s a hatred inside of you that burns in a way that scares normal people.
- You made unlikely allies in large corporations who are more interested in tax breaks and loopholes even if the government has to cut your Medicare and Social Security or cut education to a point where states and local governments have no financial choice but to educate your children in portable trailer classrooms with 35 other students.
- Would these corporations do this just to help pad their quarterly earnings reports with certain tax and regulatory policies? You bet your sweet ass they do. And you better believe they’re happy to have you make the “freedom” argument as “concerned citizen patriots” on their behalf.
- Yet, after those corporations spent billions on TV adds and herded you like sheep over the last half decade to discredit Barack Obama for everything from being a “Godless communist” — to his “being born in Kenya and hatching a secret plot to take down America” — to Obamacare’s “death panels and job killing regulations” -
- YOU still lost.
- After having a Senate Republican Leader state that his party’s top priority in Congress was to make “Obama a one term President” and a House of Representatives that blocked everything he tried to do and then had the brass to criticize him for “not getting anything done” -
- YOU still lost.
- After attacking gay people who want equal protection under the law (BTW, I’m referring to the 14th amendment to the constitution, I know you forget most of the amendments after the 2nd one) -
- YOU still lost.
- After attacking the Hispanic community who’s tired of being spoken “at” like criminals, attacking low income women who rely on Planned Parenthood for services of which 98% have nothing to do with abortion, and attacking relatively trivial things like PBS that children and adults enjoy as “1″ damn television channel that doesn’t include Honey Boo Boo or a “Fox News Breaking Alert” announcing Obama’s latest “Czar” appointment -
- YOU still lost.
- And after throwing all the red meat in your warped political base out to the rest of the country to eat, the majority of Americans weren’t hungry for it and didn’t trust ordering from your unhealthy, de-regulated menu -
- YOU still lost.
- You can read me the constitution, but you clearly don’t have a practical understanding of what you’ve read, heard on television, or forwarded to your entire email list of like minded xenophobes.
- This country is great because our founders were smart enough to limit the government’s power and give the people enough freedom and authority to correct their own mistakes in pursuit of a “more perfect union” (it’s in the first damn line of the Preamble, in case you can’t find it in your Tea Party Constitution Cliffs Notes).
- Our founders were utterly brilliant and sophisticated. I don’t like to speak for them, but I doubt they would have been friends with Glenn Beck or Rush Limbaugh or Sarah Palin. Nah, they wouldn’t have made the guest list at Mt. Vernon or Monticello.
- But let’s be clear, our founders weren’t perfect. They owned slaves. Only White male property owners had a say in things. Women, blacks, native Americans, and other constituencies had to wait for an American dream and in many cases, are still waiting and working for it. Speaking of work, children were working 12-16 hour days with zero safety protections in statute. Zero.
- The constitution, subsequent amendments and Supreme Court rulings and opinions since 1800 aren’t perfectly clear (those who think they are tend to have had a healthy serving of Kool-Aid and have never watched oral arguments at the Supreme Court).
- The founders knew that they, and the constitution they drafted, weren’t perfect. This is why they added a Bill of Rights and why they created a Supreme Court and a process that has allowed us to add 27 amendments to their work of art.
- Their imperfection is what led to a Civil War to prove that human and civil rights aren’t a “states’ rights issue” – they’re endowed by our creator, not by legislatures in Mississippi or Alabama, and they’re protected equally in our constitution, but also in our democratically passed laws.
- I run from the Capitol steps to the Lincoln Memorial most mornings that I’m in Washington. I may not be fast or smart, but I can read what’s carved in stone.
- Please. I welcome a challenge to what I’ve said. If you think because I voted for President Obama that I’m a socialist or that I don’t want a better America, I’m happy to take time from running a business I’ve co-founded and time from money I’m trying to raise for Big Brothers Big Sisters of America to pause and give you a fresh one. At no charge.
- But I do ask this: be a real Patriot. Look at that flag you’ve hung upside down. Look at what you’ve done to it and what that means. Thousands of our bravest men and women, braver than me, just lost limbs and in many cases their lives so that Iraqis and Afghanis could vote however they see fit. I did that on Tuesday and so did you. That’s what that flag stands for – equal access to a process, not a guarantee for any of our desired outcomes.
- A country that defeated Hitler, Mussolini, and bin Laden won’t crumble because the guy you wanted to be President got beat.
- You lost. Now learn from it.

Congratulations Mr. President!!

Aaaaah what a year it's been.....all coming to an end Tuesday night, November 6th, 2012.

 Barack Obama won a second term as I sat on the couch watching, no phone, no internet connection to stress me out,  Just me, my TV, and my President, who WON by a large margin! I never doubted, not even for a minute, that he would win! When they called it with Ohio I quickly turned on Fox to see their reaction, it was pretty hilarious to see their stunned faces and to hear their whiny asses! Pathetic...Dick Morris saying Romney would win by a landslide, with 400 electoral votes! Haley Barbour saying hurricane Sandy broke Romney's momentum! LOL! I didn't know that lying geek had momentum!! This is what happens when people live in a bubble, those conservatives have tunnel vision! How could they and how could Romney go into November believing he had a chance in hell of winning?? Have they never heard of Nate Silver?? ;)...stupid sheeple, stupid, stupid sheeple!!

Oh well it's done and over and President Obama is our president for FOUR MORE YEARS! Face it haters, wingnuts....sheeple....even with MILLIONS upon millions spent by KKKarl Rove, the KKKoch brothers, and numerous anonymous wealthy donors, even with voter suppression tactics that came straight from the GOP, the good people of this country actually VOTED without giving those ads full of lies and distortions a second thought! People stood in lines to vote early, standing sometimes for 7 or more hours! They were NOT gonna let the GOP suppress their votes! The evil ones did not win, their tactics backfired and I can only believe it hurt their party so bad we have yrs and yrs of Democratic presidents to look forward to...

So what do we have next? Will the GOP work for the people and work WITH the president now that they don't have to worry about making him a one term president? I don't see it happening, sadly. AND if they don't then we have 2014 to vote the fuckers OUT! I don't believe we will ever see a yr like 2010, Democrats are awake and paying attention! I believe we will see a different Barack Obama in 2013, he wants a place in the history books, he will do big things in the next 4 years, even bigger than what we saw in his first term, which was impressive to say the least!

YUP, do you know this story? If not please inform yourselves, especially those of you who will be voting (GAG) for MittenspigfuckerRomney! See, he is, along with Bain, making a MINT on the Sensata plant shutting down and MOVING TO CHINA!

Sensata, in the second quarter, made over five hundred million dollars in profit, BUT that does not seem to make them happy little campers so they are fucking the American worker and embracing the Chinese woman who are GRATEFUL to work for them at NINETY NINE CENTS AN HOUR! YUP, you heard that right! Just think, PROFITS will soar! 99 cents an hour, 12 hours a day, one day off a month...this makes Mittens absolutely giddy! He is in AWE of the Chinese worker, he wants to know why American workers refuse to work like a slave for 99 cents an hour...

When MittenspigfuckerRomney tells you he will crack down on China what does that say to you? How does that make you feel? All cozy and warm? Will you vote to destroy America from the inside, if you vote for Mitt Romney you are doing just that!!

It's crunch time...

How many days til the election? 18? I already voted, STRAIGHT D, all the way down the ballot!!

God, where do you begin when you've been away for so long? So much has happened, so much to talk about...

Mittens and Queen Annie acting like arrogant pompous asses...his debate performances were teetering on blatant disrespect for the moderators and for the president! But what do you expect from a business man who has been secluded from the rest of the country as he lived his life in a bubble, surrounded by the elite, the ubber rich, the business people only concerned with ONE thing, making as much money as possible no matter who it affected, who it destroyed!

Debate number one, President Obama did show up, he did answer the questions with his normal expertise, but was overshadowed by the bigmouth bully who did nothing but lie and twist himself into a pretzel! He was rude, arrogant, and tried to pass himself off as a moderate. No wonder President Obama was in shock! He was speechless on how to respond to what looked like a drug induced psychopath, Mitt Romney!

The second debate, the one where President Obama came and conquered, was much better. Obama commanded the room. His answers were thoughtful, truthful, full of optimism for the next four years. Romney was his usual pompous ass self, rude and full of crap. His stories were fictional to say the least, especially funny was the Binders remark! As President Obama looked on Mittens could not help but make up shit to TRY and appeal to woman voters,  HA!! It didn't work Mr. Robme!

Monday night's Foreign Policy debate should be a good one. If President Obama comes with the same command of the room performance, he will surely show America just who can better serve Americans, He IS the Commander in Chief! Mittens will try to trip up the president on Libya, he will again make an ass of himself, no worries, we have this!!

I stopped listening to wingnuts, stopped looking at poll numbers, I check out fivethirtyeight blog every couple days, I trust Nate Silver. As long as we don't have to worry about voter suppression or the evil extremists stealing the election we will be just fine. We are on the road to a big win, I feel it in my bones!!

Hi Friends! I had my 3 year bloggy anniversary last month, thank you for sticking with me even though I'm not posting like I used to...I do miss the old times, maybe I'll get back to doing more with my blog soon, and reading your blogs too!

....I checked in on Tom Degan's blog this morning and see I'm still listed on his sidebar...that made me feel good...

     Just a little update, I'm still 100% behind President Obama, he's gonna win and win BIG in November...I'm still spreading the truth and facts about the Teapublicans and Mitt Romney, yea still shocked they actually have followers since their whole campaign has had more lies and deception than a pile of hot steamy dog shit has flies...But what do you expect from a following of blind sheeple who simply hate Barack Obama so much they will throw their support behind a Mormon who believes he has his own planet in the sky after he dies, oh, and he believes his millions will be in a suitcase and it's going with him! Are you listening to R and R?? Have you ever heard such idiocy, such blatant lies, such distortion and nonfactual claims thrown at our POTUS? Me neither...UGH

What's next on the agenda, THE DEBATES! After the putrid RNC and the awesome Democratic convention, I'm so ready to see more from my President and VP as they go face to face with the incompetent Boobs, R and R.....Also looking forward to the rallies, President Obama and Democrats  drawing crowds with numbers into the hundred thousands while Mittens struggles to draw crowds into the hundreds :) LOL...

 On a personal note, Amelia started Kindergarten last week! My baby girl is in school all day which gives me more time to blog and facebook, but also more time to stitch, I'm back to stitching so I can make a bit of cash. So far it's going well, I have a selling page on facebook and also a shop in PA is doing wholesale with me...

So, that's what I've been up to...we made it through the hot and humid summer and are now into Fall with a huge election looming. I'm ready to vote for Barack Obama, I'm ready for his second term, it'll be different from his first I believe. He'll be tougher on Congress, he has nothing to lose, right?!

‎ The TRUTH IS the Obama campaign was suing to block an Ohio law which restricts a very successful early voting program in the state. The President’s campaign was trying to keep expanded voting rights in place for everyone, military included.

In FACT it IS Mitt Romney, by supporting the Ohio law that would do away with three days of early voting for all but those covered under the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voter Act (‘UOCAVA’), who is supporting the restriction of voting rights for as many as 913,000 Ohio veterans. This includes military retirees with over 20 years of service and multiple deployments. In short, Mitt Romney supports efforts to make voting more difficult for the very people who have put their lives on the line after swearing an oath to uphold our Constitution and democracy.

IT IS A FACT, The Republiscum Party is fucking with America's right to VOTE in THIS election!! There is no more substance to this claim than that the president was actually born in Kenya and educated in an Islamist madrassa.

Taken seriously, this "neo-birther" fable would tend to erode the original "birther" claims. But logic and proof have no impact on such speculations, whose aim is to profit from prejudice and extremism.

Consider the source—in this instance, an individual named Cliff Kincaid, who runs an old extreme-right outfit called Accuracy in Media and, appropriately, venerates the likes of Richard Nixon and Joe McCarthy.

The last big plot promoted by Kincaid was the "bipartisan" scheme to portray the "murder" of Clinton White House counsel Vince Foster as a suicide. Among the conspirators fingered by Kincaid in this alleged cover-up was Republican independent counsel Kenneth Starr, best known for his dogged, intemperate, $50 million effort to remove President Clinton from office.

Now Kincaid is insinuating that Davis was not merely a left-wing mentor who somehow transformed Barack Obama into a communist—an old theory that first surfaced in 2004—but Obama's actual father, too. To Kincaid, the influence of Davis, who died 25 years ago, explains why Obama has pursued policies such as universal health coverage (although Accuracy in Media has yet to investigate how the communists duped Romney into that Massachusetts health plan).

Kincaid recently appeared to promote a movie and book based on these claims on a Secure Freedom Radio show hosted by Fred Grandy, a former Republican congressman who played Gopher on "The Love Boat." (I couldn't make this up, and neither did People for the American Way in reporting this news on the website Right Wing Watch.)

In a revealing exchange, the sophisticated Grandy says: "I've heard this rumor before—that Frank Marshall Davis was more than just a surrogate father to Barack Obama; he may well have been this guy's real father, and Barack Hussein Obama Sr., to some degree, is merely a minor influence in this kid's life. How much credibility do you put into that?"

Kincaid replies: "I put a lot into it now that I've seen Joel Gilbert's film; it's called Dreams From My Real Father. It's an incredible film. He's going to show excerpts; he's going to talk about his research. He's expanded upon what we and (author) Paul Kengor have done, and I think it deserves a fair hearing. Now, whether or not he was a real father or not, the fact is Frank Marshall Davis has an influence over our president, and that's the critical issue, but if, indeed, if he was Obama's real father, and the comparison's photos are striking, then we've got even more of a mystery behind this guy in the Oval Office."

The key phrase? "Whether or not he was a real father or not." The malaprop-prone Kincaid doesn't really care whether his filmmaker or his author can cite an iota of proof to support these speculations. They want to smear the president as an illegitimate Marxist—and in unconscious mimicry of the most dedicated communists, they behave as if the end justifies the means.

Like The Clinton Chronicles video that portrayed the then-president and first lady as murderous drug-runners (distributed by such respectable figures as the late Jerry Falwell), the current crop of right-wing propaganda embraces whatever wild fantasy might provoke fear and rage. And as with what became known as "Clinton Derangement Syndrome," the insane accusations eventually infected mainstream discourse, with supposedly sane politicians and pundits endorsing or simply alluding to the maddest conspiracy theories.

Should Obama win a second term, don't be too surprised when they demand impeachment.

He says 51% of Americans pay no income taxes and that infuriates him too. Top Tax Rates were 70%+ from 1936 to 1980, and 90%+ from 1944 to 1963.

Since 1981, the Reagan Top rate tax cuts from 70% to now 35% have cost us 300 billion per year, 9 trillion over 30 years, plus 7 trillion for interest on the Republican Debt.

The higher top tax rates also had deductions, but those deductions were for plants, wages and equipment. Those deductions created good paying jobs.

Today the Senate Democrats voted to extend the tax cuts for ALL earning UP TO 250,000.00, but any income OVER 250,000.00  tax rates will rise to what they were under the prosperous Clinton years, as they should. ORLANDO, Fla. — A grand jury will not look into the Trayvon Martin case, a special prosecutor said Monday, leaving the decision of whether to charge the teen's shooter in her hands alone and eliminating the possibility of a first-degree murder charge.

That prosecutor, Angela Corey, said her decision had no bearing on whether she would file charges against George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch volunteer who has said he shot the unarmed black teen in self-defense. Corey could still decide to charge him with a serious felony such as manslaughter which can carry a lengthy prison sentence if he is convicted.
A grand jury had been set to meet Tuesday in Sanford, about 20 miles northeast of Orlando.
Corey has long had a reputation for not using grand juries if it wasn't necessary. In Florida, only first-degree murder cases require the use of grand juries.
Corey's decision means she doesn't have to rely on potentially unpredictable jurors, said David Hill, an Orlando criminal defense attorney.
"Let's give her the benefit of the doubt. Maybe she knows there isn't enough for first-degree murder but she wants to maintain control and charge him with something else," Hill said. "What does she need a grand jury for? She cuts out the unpredictability of the grand jury. She goes where she feels she has more evidence."

I believe this is encouraging news, I think deep down we know a jury wouldn't convict GZ of first degree murder so why take the chance and end up like a "walking away Casey murderer Anthony"?  Stayed tuned tonight for this breaking news, should start to get very interesting!

Special prosecutor Angela  Corey had a press conference yesterday, I was very impressed with her and have total confidence George Zimmerman will be convicted of 2nd degree murder or the lesser sentence of manslaughter. This news for the Martin family is mind easing but nothing the state does to the murderer will bring back their beloved son Trayvon...bitter sweet justice...

Just imagine raising kids in today's society, having to worry about bullying from their peers, underage drinking and driving,  texting while driving, endless hours of homework, expensive after school sporting equipment to purchase....but do you worry about your 17 yr old walking to the corner 7/11 for a can of iced tea and a box of Skittles? Do you worry for his life as he walks home alone in the dark? No, not usually, not if you live in a safe gated community like Trayvon Martin's Dad did...

This is 2012, I thought Jim Crow was DEAD!!!  Trayvon Martin was a 17 yr old "GOOD KID", he was minding his own business walking down the sidewalk, when George Zimmerman, self appointed neighborhood watchman called the police to report a suspicious looking dude. Zimmerman was TOLD to leave the kid alone, stop following him, but he wanted nothing more than to hunt down that black boy and shoot him in cold blood, JUST BECAUSE HE WAS BLACK.....

Listen to the 911 tapes, you will hear the screams of the boy as Zimmerman chases him down like a hunted animal....Trayvons girlfriend on the cell phone with him tells him to run, he says no, he'll just walk fast...OMG...as the Mother of 2, I can not bare to imagine the fear in the heart of that young man, being chased by a mad man with a gun....a White man, murdered a Black teenager, just for being Black,  on February 26th and he has not been charged....

The hate coming from the Right.....it can't be denied

 While on Facebook tonight, like every night, I came across this comment from a hater on a friends posting about Limbaugh hurting the Republican party...
Harry said: "Ain't no way in hell that monkey gets reelected. He's going back to the zoo where his wife will be featured in an exhibit on living proof of Darwinism."  Yes the moron was speaking about President Obama and the lovely First Lady. 

 Well, after my choice words to hateful Harry, another friend posted this link of an OP-Ed in the Arizona Daily Star which speaks to the hate coming from the Right ....

 In January on my facebook page I posted a sampling of unsavory online comments which followed the Star story about the vigil at the mall that month. I wanted my friends on the right to see what their brethren were saying about the Memorial and about Giffords. Some of my friends responded with a gust of astonished revulsion as though a cat had thrown up at their feet. Others wanted to know what possessed me to lift the rock-- as though I had exposed subterranean dwellers to daylight. Readers were abandoning their keypads, scurrying to fetch disinfectants and pesticides. Others informed me they never read online comments because once was enough.

Why lift the rock? Because I believe they represent the modern norm. They are not the exceptions. They are the spawn of FOX and talk radio on 12 cups of coffee unfettered from the chains of conscience and responsibility. They are the energized base. In times of economic drought the fringe take root and grow while the wise wither. How else can you explain an educated centrist moderate pragmatic public servant like Giffords nearly losing the last race to a galoot whose education ended at high school, a patriot soldier who did little more than channel the worst of talk radio. Kelly was supported by ordinary folks who went with their gut and rejected that “Marxist Socialist Giffords” and paid little attention to the utter incoherent nonsense their candidate spewed. Because they were afraid.

  Whether its Rush Limbaugh calling a young Georgetown student advocate for family planning a “slut” or it’s an online commenter mangling my name it’s the same angry fear-fed beast. In this age of anonymity such dark voices whisper in our ears constantly. And to the great sea of superficial disinterested citizens who are lucky to pick up a soundbite or two a month this hate is the currency of political commerce today. This language is the kind of talk we once imagined was reserved for the darkness on the edge of a lynch mob. Such irrational talk and anger, no longer gilded with shame, is commonplace today. One can now speak ugly “truths” because one must speak up. Examine the national campaign underway and you’ll smell the revolting stench of shameless pandering to an illiterate and superstitious base that is happy to be entertained with cartoon villains and bumper sticker treatises. Happy to be cheered by poisonous rhetoric that stalls critical thinking and reinforces mindless assertions of blather as fact. Arpaio’s utterly embarrassing Birther show is exhibit A. The right has abandoned Ike and Nixon and even Reagan. It has kissed classic Conservatism so long and hitched a ride on the backs of the more expedient goober movement.Today it values power over truth, worships arms above man, cultivates the underclass with a fantasy economic ideology, despises government, mocks the poor, inflates and exploits petty issues for political ends, offers no constructive ethos, questions the patriotism of dissident voices, engages freely in scapegoating and demands purity from its foot soldiers.

I have a few conservative friends on Facebook, they consider themselves "normal patriotic Tea Partiers", caring and thoughtful Christians, but they beg me to listen to Rush Limbaugh, they love Glenn Beck, and Mark Levine, they admired Andrew Breitbart! Sorry, this is not normal in my book...You can't claim to be sane then listen to Rush Limbaugh call a young college woman a slut and you defend Limbaugh, not the woman!! Not once did those friends say Limbaugh was wrong!

We have different brain cells, I'm positive of that!

The new president of the Harvard Law Review was somewhat taken aback by the deluge of media coverage that followed hard on the heels of his election. The New York Times ran a “First Black” headline, which probably won’t be the last time that label is affixed to Barack Obama. The twenty-eight-year-old law student says he wasn’t going to run for the office until a black friend talked him into it. “There’s a door to kick down,” the friend argued, “and you’re in a position to kick it down.” The job does give him a great forum, but there’s a trade-off. “I like to read novels, listen to Miles Davis,” he says. “I don’t get to do that anymore. I don’t get dates anymore.” Still, he’s philosophical, even briskly cheerful, about his lost leisure. And that’s because Barack Obama has a game plan: he wants to tackle the quagmire of America’s inner cities. Federal money alone won’t do it, he argues. The deeper problem is that “those communities are unorganized. We need to get more people planning.” For preparation, Harvard Law School is a “perfect place to examine how the power structure works. It gives you a certain language.” When he’s fluent, he’ll be able to translate the language of the streets (“which I can speak”) into the language of the Establishment, and vice versa. The sense of mission derives in part from his experiences in the Third World. He saw brutal poverty while growing up in Singapore [Editor’s note: We should have said Indonesia.] with his mother, an anthropologist, and his half-brothers and -sisters in Kenya still live hand to mouth at times. Obama says that his late father’s experience in the Kenyan government left him a broken and bitter man, and he responds warily to the assumption that he himself will run for office. “If I go into politics it should grow out of work I’ve done on the local level, not because I’m some media creation.” Though, as media creations go, he’d be a pretty good one.


My President, he's been around for a long time, a real mover and shaker, a real American who cares about ALL Americans...Do I think we are lucky to have him? You betcha I do!

The No Religious Test Clause of the United States Constitution is found in Article VI, paragraph 3, and states that:

The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.

This has been interpreted to mean that no federal employee, whether elected or appointed, career or political, can be required to adhere to or accept any religion or belief. This clause immediately follows one requiring all federal and state officers to take an oath or affirmation of support to the Constitution, indicating that the requirement of such a statement does not imply any requirement by those so sworn to accept a particular religion or a particular doctrine. The option of giving an "affirmation" (rather than an "oath") can be interpreted as not requiring any metaphysical belief or as a nod to Mennonites and Quakers who would not swear oaths but would make affirmations.
