Liz Cheney called out President Obama for his early-morning trip to honor fallen soldiers arriving at Dover Air Force Base yesterday, suggesting President Bush honored America's heroes with a bit more class than his successor.
Cheney, on Fox News Radio's John Gibson Show yesterday:
"I think that what President Bush used to do is do it without the cameras. And I don't understand sort of showing up with the White House Press Pool with photographers and asking family members if you can take pictures. That's really hard for me to get my head around...It was a surprising way for the president to choose to do this."
It's not clear exactly what Cheney is referring to when she says, "Bush used to do it without the cameras."
It's true that Bush's Pentagon continued a long-standing policy of banning cameras at Dover when the nation's fallen arrived in flag-draped caskets from foreign battlefields. (Upon taking office, Obama lifted the ban.)
So that covers "without the cameras."
But as CBS's Mark Knoller reported yesterday, Obama was the first president to visit arriving dead at Dover during the wars in Afghanistan or Iraq -- meaning that when it came to taking trips to Dover like Obama did yesterday morning, Bush never used to "do it" at all.

No I use history lesson from the president's days of hanging with Bill Ayers. You know that guy who was planning on bombing a military installation and actually bombed someone's house -with kids in it oh and the Pentagon.

As the Assoicated Press reported, Obama kept his trip to Dover secret to all but a few White House correspondents. He and those correspondents attended the transport ceremony of only one of the 18 dead Americans. Obama met privately with the families of the victims in the base chapel.
Bush and, yes, Cheney have blood on their hands for leading this country into war to advance the misquided empire-building quests of the neocons. That is a fact.
Such facts never get in the way of the fools who feed off Fox News.

I don't think the sincerity of any president should be questioned when it involves our military's KIA's. It's such a huge responsibility that they bear...and I can't imagine that it doesn't weigh heavily in their souls.

Speaking as Viet Nam War vet, the only thing I find more repugnant than "chicken hawk" politicians- the ones who greenlight sending others to fight, die, have their limbs blown off and their families ripped apart in the wake of war- while they did everything they could to avoid military service, its having their spoiled, coddled, rich brat offspring shooting off their mouths about something they can't even begin to fathom.
Cheney, Limbaugh, Hannity and the rest of them....never wore a uniform, never learned how to blow another person in half with an M-16, never felt separation from loved ones from months or years.
Thank God we finally have a President who gives a damn.

I've been blogging since 2006. In that time I've had one rightie say he would pay more tax to provide the resources necessary to "win" however they define "win" in Iraq and Afghanistan.
I find it difficult to take these jokers seriously when they are not even willing to pay a few more bucks a week for proper equipment, manpower and care for our returning Veterans.

Sue everyone knows about taxes for goodness sakes. It's just that all the taxes the admin is proposing especially in a recession will cause more unemployment.
It's about the future of the country and this ridiculous spending that is going ,with added taxes on people's health care and mandated taxation on medical equipment,businesses and people who are already struggling.
Just like what FDR did. The part we seem to ignore when businesses were taxed right out of business,suicides were up and people were rioting in the streets.
