Organizing for America, MoveOn.org, Democracy Now.org....These organizations worked their butts off to get Barack Obama elected and they are still working hard to make sure Republicans DO NOT win back the House or Senate in November. When I get a letter like this it gives me hope and renews my faith in the American people.
Sure, the republicans have to boast about BIG WINS, but we know it's a bunch of bull. They have no plans, no ideas. They say Obama is moving us in the wrong direction, but they give us no reason to trust them with the road map. They've already proven they can't drive and read the map at the same time!
"Republicans win back House, Senate." "Voters reject Obama's agenda."
If you listen to the talking heads on TV, it's like November 3rd's headlines are already written.
But here's what they don't know -- and it's why they're dead wrong: The same grassroots movement that knocked on the most doors, made the most calls, and inspired the most first-time voters in history in 2008 hasn't gone anywhere. In fact, we're gearing up to do it all again.
You heard it from the President on Monday. We've been planning for the fall campaign all year. And we know full well that winning nationally means organizing locally. Every House district holds an election this year, and all but five states will vote statewide for a governor or senator.
Republicans are already calling 2010 a "referendum" on the President's agenda. They're campaigning to win majorities in Congress, so they can roll back the progress we've worked so hard to make. In fact, hundreds of candidates have signed a pledge, circulated by the conservative Club for Growth, to repeal health insurance reform.
If history is any guide, this is nothing to scoff at. In midterm elections, the president's party regularly loses seats. And an economy that's still recovering only makes our job harder.
But history has never seen anything like us.
While Sarah Palin gives big speeches mocking "community organizers," we're investing in them. Our field operation is far and away the largest of its kind in history. OFA staff and volunteers are pounding the pavement across the country.
From the earliest primaries in 2008 to the fight for Wall Street reform, while the attacks ads were flying and the cynics were talking down our chances, we've done what we know best -- keep on organizing. Investing in these resources is what will make it possible for us to set records again in 2010.
The headlines we wake up to on November 3rd are in our hands. But we can't succeed without a strong start -- and we can't do it without you.
The fight ahead is going to be tough. With your help, Election Night doesn't have to be.
Thanks,
Mitch

GOOD luck, they will not get a dime from me. Nor will I vote for them ever again. Not until they grow a spine. A real spine not lip service.
Well, I don't even have the money to buy a carton of milk but I can and will spread the word by any means possible. Not helping out invites further encroachments on our rights by the GOP and we have a serious obligation to counteract the Lisa the Loons of the world.
Aaaaaaaaah!!!!! My server was down all night, fuckin Verizon, then I get online and can't connect to ANYTHING!!! SO.... I talk to a person in India or Japan... and finally I am here!!!
Drop dead lisa!!!
RZ, sorry to hear that, Leslie you are right, we need to back our democrats because whats worse??? GOP, thats what!!!
Lisa the Loon. Nope, that not it. Lisa the Leech? Nope. Lisa the GOP Whore? Almost but not quite. Lisa the Bitch/Bastard? Well, a little more. Oh, Lisa the rude bitch/bastard loony leech GOP whore. Yeah, that's right.
guess it's back to moderation....
it's not worth the aggravation leslie
Oh, I know but it's so much fun to pick on someone who's too stupid they don't know they're being cut down to the size of a pebble.
Hate injustice? Want to fight human rights abuses? Then head to Arizona... Then keep going south until you get to Mexico, where the real robbing, raping and killing of immigrants happens
From Amnesty International's report:
The Mexican authorities must act to halt the continuing abuse of migrants who are preyed on by criminal gangs while public officials turn a blind eye or even play an active part in kidnappings, rapes and murders
Migrants in Mexico are facing a major human rights crisis leaving them with virtually no access to justice, fearing reprisals and deportation if they complain of abuses
Kidnappings of migrants, mainly for ransom, reached new heights in 2009 ... almost half of interviewed victims saying that public officials were involved in their kidnapping.
An estimated six out of 10 migrant women and girls experience sexual violence, allegedly prompting some people smugglers to demand that women receive contraceptive injections ahead of the journey, to avoid them falling pregnant as a result of rape.
As those e-mails say, you can be a coward and delete this, or you can pass it along, if you care about your fellow human beings...
This doesn't make me happy, it sickens me. I used to go to Mexico all the time.
I would rejoin the military just to go down there, as long as we took out the corrupt ruling oligarchy along with the drug gangs.
SF- not that I totally disagree with your passion about what's going on in Mexico (a country that I've vacationed in and love), and there is a real mess down there, and something needs to be done.
But say the United States uses its muscle down there- then what?
Been there done that. General Pershing chasing Pancho Villa around Mexico a century ago during the Mexican Revolution and following Civil War, with no result, no clearcut win. Following that ride to nowhere Mexico had more than 70 years of one party rule.
If the US were to take action, then the perception of American imperialism is reinforced once again in Latin America. And perception IS reality. Fidel Castro looks like less than a crazy totalitarian gasbag and more as a prophet.
Something has to be done- but a unilateral "invasion of pacification" more than likely would have a cost that is greater than most Americans would be willing to pay.
Real Grass Roots Funded by George Soros.
Hugh Jee:
Wise words. Sounds like you have indeed been there, done that.
My last paragraph was out of anger. I do not want us invading anybody (count me as one conservative who is not beating the "invade Iran" war drums either). I was just blowing off steam.
I sincerely meant the rest of it though.
That makes two of us SilverFiddle.
SF: We all have moments of anger.
I sincerely think it's good when someone has the courage to admit it.
Having said that, I will never apologize for expressing anger whenever I see Lisa's name. So, I guess that makes you a better man than me. Oh wait, I'm not a man. ; )
Lisa: You licking a lollipop or sucking on something?
Soros is a pauper compared to Koch.
I got this today RZ, see progressives are working hard every day and it will pay off.
Dear MoveOn member,
Great news! Last week, Anthem Blue Cross backed off on a plan to raise some customers' insurance premiums by as much as 39 percent.1
Their plan to jack up rates caused a public backlash earlier this year, including a petition signed by you and 310,000 other MoveOn members, a congressional investigation, and a call from the Obama administration for Anthem to explain themselves.2
And on Thursday, the outcry paid off. Anthem, citing "miscalculations," said they're withdrawing the rate increase.
