This is the kind of man I am looking for...

to be our next president, Ed Schultz.  His fired up personality, the way he can tell the American people EXACTLY what the republican party is doing to us,  gets me so fired up I could punch every republican obstructionist square in the face and not feel one bit sorry! Who else is telling us the thugs have killed the unemployment extension AGAIN?? You don't see our Dem leaders on TV after the vote telling us these thugs are ruining the lives of millions of Americans out of work in the worst economy since the great depression!! Well, okay, you are seeing a few of the Senators on Ed's show but they sound defeated!! Why is a 57 to 41 NOT a majority vote to pass the bill??? I know people but FIX it so it is a majority vote!! The thugs are crying about unemployment insurance extensions and deficits again, BUT will fight for tax breaks for the wealthiest 1%!!! When I read these stories and watch Ed's show I get sick to my stomach, especially when new polls come out saying the country prefers Republicans to take control of the House and Senate!! What country do these people live in??? This is about Republicans and Democrats, there is a clear distinction between the 2 parties when it comes to the economy. Educate yourselves Independents....

The dims will do exactly as they are told and fighting back is not one of them.

Yes they could change rules so the repugs did not hold the cards but they will not.

Nothing is changing and it's not going to.

If the gusher is not shut off much will change and the right will be faced with feeding those who have lost all or letting them starve.

I say those on the right who have voted repuglican and lost their unemployment will continue to vote the same because that's what they do. Lockstep even at an individual level.

Boy, did you hit the nail on the head with this one!
It's a scary thought that so many are losing unemployment at a time like this. And giving tax breaks to the richest and sending jobs overseas, it's a truly scary situation. I honestly don't know what it will take for some people to open their eyes. If your rich enough, I guess you don't have to. How sad. And how little they care for their fellow Americans while professing to be Christians. What a joke, if it wasn't so painful.

The dems could have passed it the way they passed health care but it's obvious they didn't want to and besides it should have overwhelmingly passed if all the dems voted for it.

what the Republicans are doing in nothing compared to how the democrats are bringing us down.

this is such phony BS because come 2011 the dems already have so many tax increases on the middle class you will may even change parties when it hits you/ Although abused animals still have unconditional love ..so who knows.

Tom you are adorable! I get so fired up when I listen to Ed then read more thug obstruction elsewhere and I'm in a full anxiety attack!

Onefly that seems to be true about the right still lock step with their leaders like Limbaugh, yes he is their leader and they will obey what he tells them. As for the dimwitted lefties laying down in defeat, it's inexcusable and Harry needs to grow some fuckin balls or he will be a goner. Then look what we'll have, a fruitloop teabagger!! So what's a country to do??

I don't know what it will take either anon because the obstructionists in Congress seem to be Americas choice, for now anyway. It's mind boggling how much the middleclass and the poor are treated like dogshit by the GOP but some polls are stating they want them to take back the majority, it's insane!!

Anon 2, Ben nelson voted against and Byrd didn't vote, So to me that is a majority and it should be law!! It also shows me not ONE single thug in Congress gives two fucks about you or me!!

The Republican was created for one purpose to protect and serve the Cadre of Plutocratic Overlords in this nation.

exactly right Gene, I just wish the country would wise up...

Big Eddie used to swallow the bullshit himself, but he had an epiphany, thanks to the Mrs. He's got his head right now, which proves that at least a few of them are intelligent enough to see things for what they are.

The Repubs made a big fuss over removing Barton from his seat, etc., but in the end they did nothing. Why? Because that's how they all really feel - they used Barton as their spokesperson. I love how Ed really sticks it to the Repubs; he's great at it.

I like Ed as well. Democrats could invoke the nuclear option and eliminate the filibuster with 51 votes.

Jerry Critter said...

I believe that the nuclear option, at least as envisioned by Bill Frist in 2005, applies only to confirmations as explained in the comments to this post by someone that TomCat may know very well.

thats what I heard JR. Ed is one I hate to miss, I love his passion!

Lisa, TC and Jerry, thanks for coming by on a sweltering hot Saturday, well for me it is!

We do need some changes and we need them fast, the nuclear option plus Obama standing up to those dirty rotten thugs.

TomCat said...

Right you are, Jerry. LOL!! But I've learned more since then.

There are three ways to modify/eliminate the filibuster.

1. Anytime with 67 votes.

2. An the first session of a new term with 51 votes. The next opportunity will be the first time the Senate meets in January, 2011.

3. The nuclear option. At any time any Senator may challenge the rule. If the President of the Senate (VP Biden) concurs, the rule may be changed with 50 votes. Frist's planed challenge was intended for judicial confirmations only, but that need not be the case.

Very interesting, TomCat.

Next question. Why aren't the Democrats at least threatening to use the nuclear option? Could it be that many are happy that the republicans are obstructing controversial legislation?

Hmmmmmm!
