I admire Nancy Pelosi

Nancy Pelosi is a strong woman, she has done a superb job as House Speaker, you might agree with me if you dared put your personal feelings aside and just look at her record. Hundreds of bills passed through the House under Pelosi, and are now sitting dormant in the Senate.

AugusteLumiere Huffington Post comment

Speaker Pelosi's accomplishments were a credit to her abilities.. and her record is unsurpassed… a record, as CONSERVATIVE Norman Ornstein stated, “The111th Congress is one of the most productive Congresses in history.”
Increase in the minimum wage for the first time in 10 years..

The largest college aid expansion since the GI bill in more than 60 years...

A new GI education bill for veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars...

Increased services for the veterans, caregivers, and the Veterans Administration...

Passed the toughest ethics reform legislation in the history of the Congress...

Led the effort to pass the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to create and save millions of American jobs, provide relief for American families, and provide a tax cut to 95 percent of working Americans...

Passed the Student Aid and; Fiscal Responsibility Act, which reforms the system of federal student loans to save taxpayers $87 billion – and then invests $77 billion of those savings back into education...

Passed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, enacted to restore the ability of women & all workers to access our judicial system to fight pay discrimination...

Passed the children's health care legislation (SCHIP) providing health care for 11 million American children...

Passed hate crimes legislation, which will help protect Americans against violence based on sexual orientation, race, religion, gender, national origin, disability, or gender identity...

Raised vehicle fuel efficiency standards for the first time in 32 years and making an historic commitment to American home grown biofuels...

Eugene Robinson, The Washington Post said this in his op-ed, "She's losing her job not because she does it poorly but because she does it so well....Obama came to office with a long, ambitious agenda. Pelosi had a big majority to work with in the House, but it was ideologically diverse -- Blue Dogs, progressives, everything in between. Somehow, she managed to deliver."

True, some Democrats want Pelosi to step down for a more moderate leader. Is this what we need right now to counter the new GOP majority, a MODERATE  leader?? I say NO! The country wants STRONG Democrats in Congress. This is why Democrats lost seats, because of weaknesses, not strengths! BTW, What happened to some BlueDogs in the election this week??

"The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting a different result," said Ken Spain, spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee. Yea, they like to say it's insane to keep Nancy in a leadership role, but just because they FEAR her! More insane, voting back the fuckwad thugs who got us into this economic mess in the first place, that's insane. Voting back the same thugs over and over and over again....and expecting it to be different each time, hilarious!

NBC News's Luke Russert laid out a six-point case for why Pelosi should stay on as minority leader.  Here are 2 of the 5...

4. Many liberals and progressives do not want to compromise on their principles to appease Republicans. They see no problem in doing what the GOP did over the last two years that is being the “Party of No” out of principle. If this is the direction that liberals and progressives want to go, Pelosi is a much better leader than Hoyer. There is fear that Hoyer would be too accommodating to the GOP and to K Street influence.

5. Why should Pelosi be the only leader to fall on the sword after the disastrous results for Democrats on Tuesday? The president is not shaking up his team. Harry Reid will return to the Senate, a Senate that couldn't pass many House bills that liberals and progressives feel could have helped their election prospects. And Pelosi has worked harder than any other Democrat leader and earned the right to leave on her own terms. In no way does she need to placate moderates by stepping down.

We need a strong leader in the House to represent the minority democrats and I believe Nancy Pelosi can be that person. Love her or hate her,  she is a proven leader and we need her!

I am with you Sue, I hear people all the time say they hate Nancy Pelosi, yet when you ask them why they can't really give a reason.

She is in the position of leadership because the members of her party in the House had faith in her. That speaks volumes about her character I think.

Thanks for posting this. You are so correct. I too admire her.

Here here for Nancy!!

Annette, those even in our party who criticize her expected her to deliver 100% of the progressive agenda but they aren't looking at the Congress she had to work with. How can we continue to demand perfection from our party and NO LESS? There is no perfection, there has to be compromise even in our own party. That's hard to say but it is reality. Tell me, were democrats this critical of each other under Clinton, or did we accept the fact that our politicians are only human?

Don't get me wrong, I believe in fighting with everything you have FOR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE, but if you can have a list of accomplishments like Obama and Pelosi have then we need to embrace those facts and be proud of our party while still continuing to fight. The Democratic Party is the party who cares about Americans, no doubt about that.

I agree, we can be resolute without being partisan, no matter what the pundits say. We can also be proud of what has been accomplished and go on to try to do more. Yes it will be hard, but hasn't it always been?

Pelosi and the President have done more for the American People and passed more so called Progressive legislation than any other President and Speaker have ever done, that is something to be proud of.

We will do more, because even if the R's decide to continue with the NO's, we can possibly find some to agree with us. Even the extremists who have been elected sometimes are more reasonable than what we have dealt with this past 2 years.

Of course the republicans don't like Pelosi. You are exactly right. She was too good. They FEAR her. And they vilify anyone they fear.

If she was really bad, you would not even hear one word about her from the repubs.

The best compliment you can get is shit-talk from a republican.

Blue Dog Democrat Heath Shuler will challenge Nancy Pelosi for the House minority leader position... I'm absolutely rooting for Pelosi. Although, from what I've heard, she wouldn't have thrown her hat in the ring if she wasn't sure she had the votes. Hopefully she will be Speaker again in the not to distant future.

It's telling, isn't it, to see who the conservatives admire:

Sarah Palin who quit her job as governor less than half-way through her term to star in a reality show.

And then to see who they detest:

Nancy Pelosi who is one of our most successful Speaker of the House and a damn hard working politician.

Nancy Pelosi will be remembered in the history books.

Sarah Palin will be remembered int he joke books.

Jerry Critter said...

Sara Palin IS a joke book.

Sue said...

so glad you agree Jerry. Yes the thugs hate strong women, well strong democrat women.

Oh god w, the last thing we need is a blue dog leader! Our party knows Pelosi works hard, she'll get it I'm sure.

LOL, yup Palin is a joke that's why the few sane republicans are out to destroy her before she can destroy us.

Jerry Critter said...

Sue, it's not so much that she is a strong woman, but that she was an effective leader. She got things done; things the republicans hated. The only thing republicans could do is block things in the Senate.

The republicans were impotent in the house. The "Boner" did not live up to his name. Pelosi total deflated him. She made him look limp and weak.

Sue said...

Jerry, strong and effective same thing to me :-)
Yes she did get things done, thats why the thugs fear her. I like your analogy of Boner, what a limpasswipe he is!

wow what a strong woman. Too bad she did things only 20% of the people liked.
Maybe if she kept going she would bankrupt the whole country and we could all be California girls.

Jerry Critter said...

Anon, I say you are full of shit. Let's see your reference to your statement that only 20% of the people liked what she did.

anonymous you sound just like moron lisa. Full of shit and sadly misinformed you are!

Frodo, aiming at the Republicant fire plug, said...

First off, of Heath Shuler, Joe Gibbs, the Washington Redskins Coach who drafted him off the campus of the University of Tennessee, said to the late Jack Kent Cooke (owner of said Redskins), "Sir, I'm afraid we made a big mistake."

Frodo regrets that the Redskins ever "gave Heath a chance."

Nancy Pelosi is the victim of sexual discrimination. Time and time again, in the locker rooms of America, old, fat, white guys have talked about her "attitude" and her. . .well, the point is made. Frodo has heard the words, and, sometimes, he has faced off the competition.

It is the "sometimes' that bothers Frodo.

He'd like to see her back up there again.

So say we all?

Sue said...

I say yes Frodo, yes she can! I was watching a local tv show tonight and one commentator said she believes Nancy will retire to gramma status by next year. I'd hate to see her go!

I was not a huge fan of Pelosi's, but I cringed at how often the Senate and the Executive (a former Senator) left her twisting in the wind.

She should go home and enjoy a few peaceful years. Screw Congress.

Les Carpenter said...

I guess if all it takes to be a great Speaker is the sheer quantity of bills one railroads through the house I would have to agree with your asessment.

Sue said...

oh please RN, if Pelosi was a GOPer you would LOVE HER!! You love idiots like Palin and Bachmann but a strong and intelligent Pelosi you shit on?? Tsk Tsk...She did her job and she did it well.
